What a day in the Shields Valley!

On October 1st, over 40 community members, landowners, and conservation partners joined us
for our 3rd annual Watershed Tour in the Shields Valley.

From restoration projects with Montana Freshwater Partners and Trout Unlimited, to virtual fencing with Montana State University, MSU Extension, and Halter, to regenerative agriculture at Highland Harmony Farms, it was a day full of learning, connection, and inspiration.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, participated, presented, partnered, funded, and
helped make this day a huge success. We’re so grateful for this community.

See you in the Upper Yellowstone for the 2027 Watershed Tour! More details to come.

💙 9/8 FOR 988 | LET’S MOVE FOR CONNECTION 💙

September is Suicide Prevention & Awareness Month, and on September 8, 2026, Rural Resilience is bringing the message of 988 to light across our communities.

We’re inviting schools, students, staff, families, businesses, organizations, and community members to join us in a shared moment of movement, connection, and awareness.

🚶‍♀️ 9/8 for 988
📅 September 8th at 0900 move for 8 minutes
💙 Move. Connect. Remember.

Because suicide prevention isn’t just about what we do in a crisis. It’s about creating communities where people feel connected, supported, and comfortable asking for help before a crisis happens.

Asking for help is a skill, not a weakness.

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 by call, text, or chat for anyone experiencing a mental health, substance use, or suicide crisis — or for anyone worried about someone they care about.

Let’s make 988 something our communities know, talk about, and remember.

You are not alone. Help is available. Connection matters. 💙

Some partners don’t just support a program - they strengthen the entire community around it.

We are incredibly grateful to the Park County Community Foundation for its tremendous support of Give Back to the Yellowstone. Their investment helps us connect residents and visitors with the Yellowstone River, deepen understanding of its natural processes, and inspire thoughtful stewardship of this extraordinary place.

PCCF is a true force for good in Park County. By raising funds, awarding grants, bringing people together, and helping local nonprofits respond to our community’s greatest needs, they ensure organizations like ours have the resources to turn local ideas into meaningful action.

Thank you, PCCF, for believing in this program, investing in the health of the Yellowstone, and working every day to keep Park County such a livable, resilient, and deeply special place. We are so fortunate to have you in our corner.

Welcome, Necia Sinnard, LCSW to Rural Resilience

Necia is excited to join the Rural Resilience team and support youth and families in Park County. Growing up in a close-knit community in southwest Montana gave her a deep appreciation for the mountains, the people, and the importance of community. Those experiences continue to shape who she is and how she approaches her work. She earned her Master of Social Work from Carroll College and has continued to support children, teens, and families as they navigate life’s challenges.

Finding creative ways to connect with youth and families is an important part of her approach—whether through nature, using photography as a tool for self-expression and empowerment, or helping people understand the connection between the brain, body, and nervous system. She believes healing looks different for everyone and strives to create space for curiosity, creativity, and connection while helping families build on their strengths and discover tools that support change. Creating a welcoming environment where people feel safe to explore, learn, create, and grow together is central to her work.

Much of her own creativity and connection comes from time spent outdoors. Summers are spent gardening, growing tomatoes and raspberries, foraging, and exploring the mountains. In the winter, she enjoys skiing, writing poetry, and editing photos. These experiences help her slow down, recharge, and continue learning from the world around her.

Special thanks to the AMB West Foundation and the Park County Community Foundation for their support of this very crucial role.

US Highway 89 is a major artery for both locals and more than a million annual visitors traveling to Yellowstone's North Entrance. However, it also bisects critical habitat, forcing animals like elk, deer, and even grizzly bears to cross the road frequently. Because of this, the highway is notorious for its high collision rate — 50% of all reported accidents on this stretch involve wildlife, which is 10 times the national average.

This short film acts as a bridge between the cold statistics of road ecology and the lived experiences of local residents like Cara McGary, who have navigated—or in Cara's case, personally experienced—the dangers of this "wildlife gauntlet."

This is why our community came together to form Yellowstone Safe Passages -- to find collaborative solutions that make this corridor safer for both people and wildlife.

You can be a vital part of this solution. By supporting Yellowstone Safe Passages today, you are directly investing in safe passages for families driving home and wildlife migrating through our valley. Every gift, no matter the size, helps us take one step closer, and during Park County Community Foundation's Give A Hoot donations are amplified by the Matching Pool!

Please consider donating through this link before midnight July 31st: https://mtyc.co/iympbg

Give a Hoot to support our on-the-ground restoration and stewardship projects in Park County!

Did you know that most of the land adjoining the Yellowstone River and its lower-elevation tributaries is privately owned? This makes private landowners critically important partners in stewarding and restoring our water resources.

For example, Eightmile Creek, a Yellowstone River tributary flowing through Paradise Valley. Decades of overgrazing, juniper encroachment and other impacts left this stream straightened, widened, and lacking the pools, wetlands, and streamside willows and cottonwoods that fish and wildlife depend on. The landowners along this creek have already stepped up, changing grazing practices and adjusting water use to protect the stream, and now we're partnering with them to go further to plan and implement active restoration treatments aimed at reconnecting the creek to its floodplain and rebuilding habitat naturally.

Montana Freshwater Partners works with landowners like these to plan and implement restoration projects throughout Park County, with big public benefits for fish and wildlife, water quality, and our local ecosystem. #giveahoot49 #fortheloveofwater
