Today was the day we headed up the valley, through some of the greenest forests around. The whole area was set aside as a natural research area in 1991, in an attempt to protect the miles of swamps, beaver ponds, and unusual amount of plant diversity. The rain came in just as we got to camp, luckily we got tarps up just in time, and stayed dry as we lounged in our camp chairs

After a few hours of lugging heavy packs around, we were happy to stroll into camp and relax a bit. We got a campfire going and explored the area, which was situated at the mouth of a river we would hike up the next day. We settled in for the evening after taking a dip in the cool spring water, and enjoyed our warm backpacking meals as the light started to fade

The first day of hiking brought miles and miles of forests, spots were green and lush, but overall it was an open rocky place, quite the change of pace from the rainforests I'm used to, but no less beautiful. After admiring the views, we settled into a nice pace, and were at our camp in no time.

Amazingly, this was the view from the trailhead. After getting our fill of pictures, we loaded up the packs and headed north, hoping the dull roar of the highway faded quickly

When you do something for long enough, it becomes routine, and you can forget why you do it in the first place. I love sharing moody forest shots with you guys, but why? What do you get out of it? There's a million epic forest shots on Instagram, what am I providing people? If you dont mind, comment below why you follow me and look at the photos I share.

.
Does it help you experience nature vicariously? Are you a budding photographer looking for inspiration? Are you curious what I create/curate? Do you just enjoy looking at nice photos? Do you think liking and commenting on my photos will help your own account grow? Let me know.

.
Personally, I'm trying to tell stories, to communicate my experiences with you, although I'm not totally sure the purpose of that.
.
.
It's a fine line between following the rules of the algorithm and doing what I need to do to be successful/grow my platform, and fulfilling a purpose that satisfies me personally, and makes me feel good about what I'm doing. .
.
With this post I wanted to do a better job at capturing the essence of a recent trip, while still providing a cool photo on the cover that blends with my feed. Swipe to the right if you want to see some of the other photos I take on trips. If you've read this far, I appreciate you! Instagram can be a rather impersonal place, and I'd like to bring some authenticity to the table.
