The Art of Layering in Interior Design

I wrote a piece for Park City Home on layering your space like you do your body. Think chunky textures and fabrics, amplifying the cozy!

Snippet:

A Simple Layering Formula

Begin with a warm foundation: rug, wall color, wood tone, stone, or upholstery.

Add contrast through texture: mix smooth, woven, plush, matte, leather, wool, clay, and natural materials.

Choose a restrained palette of three to five colors, then vary the shades with inspiration from aspens, red rock, sage, pine, and weathered wood.

Layer pattern intentionally, letting one print lead and others support.

Finish with layered lighting, regional art, books, vessels, and objects that tell a story.

What’s something you do that scares you?

Each year I challenge myself to do something out of my comfort zone. It has to be something outside of the box of the professional work I do every day. Some ‘thing’ a little bit scary, that will develop resilience and expose me to new people and ideas.

10 years ago that ‘thing’ was switching from snowboarding to skiing. I wanted to watch myself wrap my head around a new sport while in my 40’s. That experience was a taste of humble pie and cost me some ski days with my expert friends, but has been well worth the challenge in the long run.

This year, for the 4th year, I shared the story of Ella Sorenson, a founding historic figure born in 1918, at a fundraiser to benefit the historic Glenwood Cemetery, an initiative hosted by @parkcitymuseum Each year the event challenges me to show up in period costume, memorize my lines, overcome stage fright, and embrace a beginners mindset as I come face to face with members of the community who have made donations that help with the upkeep of the beautiful natural cemetery.

It’s been a fabulous exercise, one that stretches me and gives back to the place I call home in a meaningful way. Through learning and retelling the tragic life stories of the early residents of Park City, I’ve especially come to appreciate the ease of my modern day life, and the sacrifices of our ancestors who paved the way.

Progress at the pool. 👏

From everything we’re seeing, UOP is getting after it and the maintenance work is well underway.

It’s great to see the work happening and the commitments for next summer turning into progress on the ground.

There’s still plenty to accomplish, but we’re excited to see it underway and we’ll be cheering UOP on every step of the way toward having the water ramps ready to open on time for the start of the 2027 summer season.

Keep it going, UOP. We can’t wait to see these kids back on the water. 💙

Bonanza Loop Trail💛

Chasing Utah’s fall colors at the Bonanza Loop Trail in Park City. This trail is in my top three for fall hikes in Utah! It is stunning and has so many colorful leaves this time of year.

🥾 5.3 mile loop
🚴‍♂️ Bikes will be biking in the opposite direction so be prepared to stop many times.
$$ There is a Parking Fee between 8am-4pm.
➡️ This trail closed October 1 according to @parkcitygovt.
