Some String Lights history here:
Ever since I can remember, I have been obsessed with string lights. There’s just something about them that seems to transport you to another place. Maybe it’s from all the movies I’ve seen.. characters dancing under the lights..maybe it’s my memories of the Nebraska State Fair lighting the night sky.
When I married Joy Killer and mentioned my love of string light, he said “string lights look horrible in the daytime.” Knowing this about him, and the fact that he hated the TV show Felicity…I HAD NO CHOICE, but to ask for string lights every year on my birthday. Every year would go by with my hopes and dreams crushed. 20 something years later I finally got my string lights. I guess the moral of the story is… be relentless, and one day you will get your string lights. ❤️
BEST SUMMER EVER.
Thank you to @partylights_com for making my dreams come true. 💡💡💡💡💡💡

✨Patio string lights project, let’s goooo 💡💥 You can find direct links to all the supplies at the link in bio ⚡️

〰️ Project supplies (linked in bio!!): shatter proof commercial grade string lights, vinyl coated guide wire, screw eye hooks, carabiners, 10 ft. metal poles, wire cutters, zip ties, electric drill, ladders and lots of patience.. 😅😅

1️⃣ Measure & Prep: Decide where you want to hang the string lights to calculate how many poles and screw eye hooks you will need. Measure (and remeasure!!) the distances and order the string lights and guiding cable accordingly.

2️⃣ Get Ready to Hang: Stake the 10ft poles into the ground and secure them to the fence with wire or strong zip ties (or dig a whole and pour concrete, if poles are not attached to a structure). Drill pilot holes into the side of the house to add screw eye hooks.

3️⃣ Hang ‘Em Up: Hang the string lights by attaching carabiners into the screw eye hooks (the poles linked in bio come with carabiners at the top so no need to purchase extra!) to make sure they look good.

4️⃣ Sturdy ‘Em Up: Feed the vinyl coated guide wire using the carabiners and tighten it - the wire will keep the lights from sagging and make them more weather proof.

5️⃣Zip To It: Using zip ties -- LOTS of zip ties-- connect the string lights to the wire. For maximum support (and because this is New England ❄️🌬!!) we used zip ties on either side of each light and at the half way point between each light/socket. 💡

6️⃣Light ‘Em Up: Plug your new babies in and enjoy! We had an electrician come and put them on a switch and dimmer, but this is totally optional.

That’s it! We might have taken a one year break between step 2 and 3 but they are up and I’m in love ✨✨✨ Leave any Q’s below and I’ll make #handsomehubbs answer them 😇😇😂 I picked this song because I DEF made him crazy over this project 😅😅

Big shout out to @ohidesignblog and @codysklein for sharing the play by play and supply list from their own patio💡✨ project - a pod team effort as always 🥰🥰🥰 Tag me if you try ‘em!!!

Making a DOABLE DIY Cement Plant Stand reminds me of when I used cement to put up the string lights in our backyard. The bottom 1/2 of these planters are filled with cement. My arm was ready to fall off from cement mixing. It was so worth it! Im so in L-O-V-E with our backyard, yet it’s not close to being complete.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
FUTURE PLANS include more planters and more #stringlights, bathroom off the pool and made-over laundry room. Stay tuned and that will all make sense. 😏
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the meantime, you will often find me in my backyard with family, friends or relaxing by myself. Do you love hanging out in your front or backyard? If so, what do love about it? If not, what can be done to change it? Other than no mosquitoes! 😣

📣Here it is: The final reveal of our backyard transformation.🤩

This makeover began a week before we moved into our rowhome and continued incrementally over two years. So much time, labor, and love has gone into this space — and each element has a memorable story behind it.

Whether finding escape at the end of a hectic day, enjoying each other’s company over cocktails at sunset, playing with Tate, dining al fresco, gathering with friends and family, or stepping out for fresh air without having to deal with unmasked people during COVID, this space has become our urban oasis.

What’s your favorite part about our backyard? Tell us below.

This cozy spot here is where we spend a lot of time up north! We (mostly my hubby) built this deck four summers ago and we had never built a deck before! We scored the conversation set on sale for $300 at @homedepotcanada and the rest is history. The red table and the star are thrifted finds that have been spray painted, the rocking chair was a Mother’s Day gift many many years ago and everything else has been brought from home - including the faux plants!🙈 This is our 3rd summer with the hardtop roof over half the deck. Our first summer we had a small gazebo but it just wasn’t cutting it, even though it looked super cute.

Check back tonight in stories and I’ll give you a nighttime tour with the string lights on!

And in the meantime, go see how my girlfriends are refreshing their outdoor spaces!

In a few short hours we will be back up north, at the lake, in our most favourite place. Road trips are fun, seeing my family was great and now we are ready to kick back and enjoy the dog days of summer, every last single one of them.

May they be sunny, warm and long! 😎☀️🚤 PS..hubby and I (mostly hubby) built this deck and privacy wall ourselves...it was our first and we are still pretty proud of it!💪🏻💪🏻 #dogsdaysofsummer #thatdecorlife #ourunclutteredhouse #lakelife #lakelifestyle #outdoorspaces #hygge #diydeck #webuiltit #letmeinspireyou #checkoutmydiy #mybrightdiy #prettyandoverlooked #showmeyouraccentwall #mybhghome #myhomemy_style #peepmypad #mixerofstyles #sharemysquare #simplystyleyourspace #currentdesignsituation #makingmyhaven #dreamingaboutdecor #mylovelyhomelife #diylife #myinterioroqsis #cottagelife #stringlights #cozyaf
