Today, I heard the last fourteen years of my life in a chime.
I started collecting watches in 2012, after reading Patek Philippe’s patent for a perpetual calendar split-seconds chronograph. I remember being completely fascinated. It opened a door to a world that, without knowing it at the time, would become such an important part of my life.
For many years, though, I was never brave enough to truly follow where that passion wanted to take me. Maybe it was humility. Maybe fear. Maybe I simply felt that I shouldn’t allow myself to want certain things too much. So I always held myself back. I limited the time I spent on this hobby. I limited what I allowed myself to buy. Even when there were watches I deeply loved, I often found a reason not to pursue them.
A few years ago, a serious health issue changed something in me. It reminded me of a truth we all know, but somehow manage to forget: tomorrow is not promised. And I realized that constantly postponing the things that bring us joy is, in its own way, postponing life.
So I stopped being afraid.
I started spending more time with the thing I loved. I started collecting with my heart rather than with fear. I bought the watches that fascinated me, moved me, and made me feel something.
It has been one of the best decisions of my life.
But strangely enough, the watches themselves turned out to be only a small part of what I was collecting. Along the way, I collected friendships. Memories.
Conversations that stayed with me. Dinners that lasted too long. Trips I will never forget. And relationships with people who changed the way I see watches, craftsmanship, friendship and life itself.
Somehow, the F.P. Journe boutique in Geneva became a place I genuinely call home. And there are other people and places in this world that now feel the same way.

My De Bethune dreams came true in Geneva! I had my eyes on a blue DB25 Starry Varius since Watches and Wonders 2025. And then the xs Starry Varius “Volcano” with a burgundy dial and slimmer case size was released in September at Geneva Watch Days. I knew I had to make one mine. The dial depicts a starry sky where the stars are actually tiny white gold pins placed in holes, and the Milky Way is depicted with flakes of gold leaf. Encased with 5N rose gold and you’ve got a stunning watch that is quite literally out of this world. Can’t thank @pascal_fischer enough for helping me land this one and for the lovely presentation at the Bucherer boutique in Geneva. Nothing quite beats picking up a new piece during Watches and Wonders and sharing the joy with all of your watch friends. Swipe to the end to see how much Pierce loves it and the smile is because he knows it will be his one day.
