I agree with Congresswoman @aoc: our open street is incredible, and we can make it the linear park that our community deserves.

Thank you, AOC, for the shoutout and for taking @streetsblognyc along Paseo Park!

“Olé, Olé, Olé the “Art of the Game,” is a series of 23 soccer ball sculptures ⚽️ , 6 of which are installed at DOT Plaza locations to celebrate the World Cup! Artists include @gabriel_fontana__ , @___cemilesahin___, @wyattarden, @leocastaneda__,

The steel and aluminum sculptures were fabricated in Brooklyn by @powerhouse_arts. Special thanks to our plaza partners @meatpackingny, @gothamparknyc, @grandcentralpartnership, @34_ave , and @paseoparkqueens.

Join us tomorrow! Wednesday at 6:30 for a donation based workshop on how to turn place into a character!

Our donation based workshops are made accessible by grants from @poetswritersinc

Check out the description below:

Every story has a location but that location can function as more than just a backdrop.

In this workshop, we will explore how to transform your story’s location into a character that propels the narrative-or even helps to generate the plot. We will begin by analyzing writing that uses location effectively and then respond to prompts that activate what you have learned.

Participants can choose to share what they have written in class and receive feedback from the instructor and other students.

Paseo Park Portraits! 📸

This photo series is a public art installation featuring the work of 6 local photographers, including myself and I’m super grateful to be sharing my work in this community!

My Project, Hands of Paseo Park, documents community events that reflect the culture of Paseo Park, highlighting people that work and take care of the neighborhood space.

Thank you @paseoparkqueens for working on this collaboration with @photoville and @nyc_dotart for your support in making this possible to share with the JH community.

Special shoutout to @nimsaj.chang for curating this installation and Josefina Bahamondes, both for being awesome mentors throughout this photography residency.

📍These photo installations can be seen on 73rd St, 83rd St and 94th St, all along 34th Ave through the end of October!

Public art, or a treasure hunt?

From across Paseo Park, Gabriel Lester's (@lestergabriellester) Art of the Game ball looks like a swarm. Step closer, and it breaks into a thousand tiny scenes: people meeting, fighting, celebrating, falling in love, falling over.

A footballer mid-kick. A conga line. A funeral procession. A man riding a giant lobster (and another running from it). A goose biting a passerby. The everyday, the absurd, and the pointed, all sharing one sphere.

Lester (who built hip hop beats before he made art) assembled this the same way: many small parts, sampled from life, pressed into one shape. And he left plenty hidden for you to find on your own.

🐝 You only see it once you get it lives in Paseo Park, Queens.

📍 Tag @arts14c when you spot a scene we missed.
📸 @megan_maloy

POV: Watching your daughter experience her first @FIFA @fwc26nynj World Cup goal that she’ll actually remember. We rooted for @miseleccionmx. GOOOOOOOL!!!! 🥳❤️⚽️🥅🏟️✨

Fun fact: Throughout High School and 3 years of college I played as a Center forward or Striker. Then I broke my ankle during an intramural game and was done 😅.

Paseo Park showed UP! Our open street is the gold standard of open streets– and today was a prime example of why. I’m proud to represent one of the most diverse communities in the world and celebrate the first game of the World Cup!

A huge thank you to @nycmayorsoffice, @nypd, @nyc_dot, @fdny, and all City Agencies for such a smooth event!

Imagine if we could break bread with our neighbors in public space where we live? Last weekend’s @longesttablecommunity did just that in our very own @paseoparkqueens in Jackson heights . Each table had a vibe, each spread unique, the sharing was abundant. At a time where NYC is having a renaissance we are reminded that generosity goes a long way.
