MovementLab’s Immersive Workshop Sat/Sun October 24-25, 2026 9am to 4:30pm This immersive workshop explores mindful process-based movement practices with Nadine Lollino, artistic director of local performance collective, MovementLab. Offering a deep-dive into this generative process, a framework is created from which what you discover can emerge through curiosity and experimentation instead of from choreography. Our goal is to reinhabit our expressive self through the use of creative movement, sensory imagination, memory, emotions, drawing/writing, and natural elements. This weekend will focus on nature’s adaptability, interconnectivity, and impermanence, and their connection to our human experience. This creative and therapeutic approach to reconnecting with our genuine self exists beyond the studio, it becomes a toolset for a more authentic and adaptable perspective to daily life and our relationships with self, others and place. MovementLab’s work is rooted in diverse modalities, including meditation, yoga, poetry, qigong, modern dance, improvisation, Butoh, and expressive therapies. All you need is the willingness to be amazed. Previous experience is unnecessary. 2-day workshop (includes free admission to the Friday evening performance) $222 Single day cost is $121 A cloud of blossoms scatter in the wind together Performance by MovementLab Friday October 23rd Harwood Museum Auditorium, Taos NM 6pm $22 / 10% off for members and students (use MLDISCOUNT at checkout) (included with full weekend workshop) Registration for workshop and performance tickets found at movementlab dot dance Link in Bio @harwoodmuseum #movementlabtaos #dancetaos #taosdance #musicanddance #thingstodointaos

By 1953, Smokey got intense. His official message was straightforward: Don’t cause forest fires. But the dramatic posters were teaching another lesson, too: Fire meant blackened trees. Frightened animals. Homeless wildlife. A forest—and a country—weakened by “shameful waste.” That imagery wasn’t new. Earlier fire-prevention campaigns had already taught Americans to see a burning forest as a forest being destroyed. Smokey just gave that message a very memorable, sympathetic face. Over time, the distinction between “don’t start a fire” and “fire is bad for the forest” became pretty easy to lose. Half a century later, it’s proven even harder to untangle. Protect the forest. For decades - even before Smokey Bear - the American public was told time and again that “protecting” the forest meant one thing: Keep all fire out. Public service posters (like this one from 1939) made clear that a healthy forest was a fire-free forest. Turns out that message wasn’t completely accurate… DECONSTRUCTING SMOKEY One Bear. For @ginaherrera, discarded materials are often the beginning of something new. Her practice moves between sculpture, assemblage, and textiles, reclaiming what has been left behind to explore questions of identity, conflict, consumption, and our responsibility to the land. In July, we welcomed Gina to Hotel Willa with @paseoproject, where her time in Taos opened a new chapter in that practice through repurposed clothing, soft sculpture, and found materials. A closer look at the artist and her time in Northern New Mexico.
