A look back at our ensemble double bill presented at the beginning of January ✨

Our BA dance and drama students worked intensively for a week in collaboration with the brilliant Lucy Hind and Penny Chivas to create two 30 minute pieces of work.

This opportunity and production was made and supported by @dancebase and @traversetheatre ✨

‘This is Us’ and ‘Mermaid’ were created as a result of the Ensemble module within the BA (hons) Dance & Drama degree.

What a brilliant experience for our students to work with 2 fantastic choreographers 🤩

MERMAID🧜🏼
A truly refreshing experience returning to the @traversetheatre and performing ‘Mermaid’ in which I had the jollity of playing our young protagonist, a competitive swimmer and a fabulous mermaid - all in the span of thirty thrilling minutes. Inspired by the award winning children’s book Julian Is a Mermaid, our devised physical theatre work invited audiences into a vivid underwater dreamscape. Through rich imagery and ensemble storytelling, the piece celebrated queerness, imagination, and the strength found in community. Our choreographer @lucyhind was so incredibly attentive and joyful, working with her was so insightful, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Throwback to Jan ‘26 week 1…
What a great week of professional development collaboration between the HND Year 2 musical theatre and acting students. They were invited by the Festival Theatre to attend their Jack and the Beanstalk Panto, backstage tour, and Q and A with the cast. Thanks to their staff for this wonderful opportunity!

THIS IS US

What an amazing way to start off the year with this thought-provoking physical theatre piece, choreographed by @pennyjchivas

It was an honour to present this protest driven work, at such a critical time in the world.

A massive thank you to @infiniteblueuk for all the amazing photos as always!
