Everyone loves a big number.

Hectares restored.
Corals planted.
Rankings.

But here’s a better question:

👉 What actually makes a restoration site meaningful?

At Livingseas, we’re proud to say we are the largest contiguous coral restoration site in Bali — and very likely one of the largest in the world.

Contiguous matters.

Many restoration projects (even very successful ones) are made up of separate patches spread across different areas. Impressive? Absolutely.

But not always connected.

Our site is one continuous, growing reef system.

And that changes everything.

Because when structures connect, density increases.
When density increases, marine life returns.
When marine life returns, the reef functions again.

So yes — numbers matter.
But connectivity, structure, and life returning matter more.

Today, we wanted to share with you an update (and we must admit, we are quite proud of it!) 🎉🪸

The Octodome now supports 1,200 corals, all actively growing. As time passes, the corals are gradually covering the entire structure, transforming it into a functional reef. Marine life is already responding — schools of fish are using it as habitat, and smaller species are beginning to settle in and form a new ecosystem.

This is a clear example of what well-planned coral restoration can achieve: when structure, science, and long-term commitment come together, reefs don’t just survive — they rebuild. We’re proud of the work done by our interns and our team, and excited to see how this site continues to evolve in the months and years ahead.

Sometimes saving a reef means doing something that feels wrong at first.
Breaking it — so it doesn’t disappear forever. 😔🪸

In Candidasa, construction is moving fast. The reef there doesn’t stand a chance if we leave it where it is. So instead of taking a few fragments, we’re rescuing as many corals as possible and moving them to a safer place where they can keep growing.

It’s intense work.

Very shallow water, fragile corals, heavy boxes, long days.

But every coral we move is one more life saved from being buried or destroyed. 🩵

So far, we’ve already done more than 60 trips to the site and have managed to save already thousands of corals.But there are still many more that need to be rescued before it’s too late.

Right now, we don’t have enough nurseries to relocate all the corals that need saving.
And that’s where you can help.
