“Dead Day” | 8.8.26
at Philosophical Research Society @philosophical_research_society
Los Feliz, CA

A fun day of films at a cool center, TIE-DIED: ROCK N’ ROLL’S MOST DEADICATED FANS, Shakedown, yummy falafel, old and new friends, and a highlight where Director Mischa Richter @mischarichter came to introduce his beautiful film SUMMER TOUR @summertourthefilm . If you can see the movie on the big screen, please do! It’s a nostalgic, timeless beauty - a film I know we’ll want to watch over and over. A number of us were very emotional afterward - realizing that that really was Bobby’s last tour. It will never be the same. So special to have The Final Tour documented for us!

The night ended with Richard’s Pictures @richardpicturesband (formerly known as “Dick’s Pics”), where we danced and let loose. They sound so good, and I love those big moments when they choose to go quiet.

A poignant moment for me that day happened while I was just wandering around taking photos. I asked to photograph a couple sitting on a bench pre-screening in the courtyard and soon realized they were deaf. When the film started, I noticed them right in front of me in the front row. The subtitles were turned on, and they smiled at each other during moments of the film. Later, the man came up to me outside. He typed a message on his phone asking how he could get the photograph. I gave him my Instagram handle, and then I asked him, “Can you hear the music?” He shook his head and hands and said, “No, but I can FEEL the music.” I cried. We hugged. Love the power of this music and this community ♥️

Charlie and I have been doing a lot of entertaining lately💃🕺There is something so incredibly special about bringing friends together around a table. For us, hosting is the ultimate labor of love. It takes a whole day of planning, prepping, and cooking, but it’s our absolute favorite way to show our friends how much we love and appreciate them. The best part? At the end of the evening, when the door closes and the last guest leaves, Charlie and I put on some music, pour a final splash of wine, and tackle the dishes together🧽💦🍴Coincidentally, I saw an article in @nytimes today about how to be a great dinner party guest. It made me realize that the world is beautifully divided into two kinds of people: those who live to host, and those who are master dinner guests.
So, I want to know…Which one are you? 🍽️🤔

My friend Alie moved to Idaho many years ago but we have the kind of friendship that we pick up right where we left off no matter how long it’s been since we’ve seen each other. She has just gotten through battling breast cancer so this visit was extra special🩷

My childhood friend @jennifersgreenleaf taught me how to make this tomato tart many years ago and it’s a winner every time.

Mother daughter time @r2_d_bag 😍

Loved seeing our deadhead friend @rockinreeddyes 🌹⚡️💀❤️

Love seeing new @muckrock artwork in Venice and the message is perfect.

We met Norma and Bryan in 2018 on our way to a Dead show in Boulder. Been friends with them ever since🥰
