POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Been wondering about this drum break for over 20 years. Only recently got wind of what it was thanks to @djmrthing and @pathsofrhythmpodcast - couldn’t believe the source material as the drums are definitely not in keeping with the rest of the LP 🤣.

I’m sure it’s been used in plenty other things (@sirbeansobe maybe on another old fave), but I’ve always loved this remix of Emcees Smoke Crack from Edan - beats and rhymes are top drawer. Made sense to spend time on my birthday poorly trying and remake it… what else are you going to do when you turn 46 😩…

Still buzzin from No Doubt! But I had to tell you about the podcast I did with my friend Adam from Once a DJ. We dove deeeeep into DJ Diaries (he read a pre-release copy) and, as my longtime fam knows, I got a whole different approach to how I do life. Manifestation is one of those things 99% of artists get wrong, so we got into what it really takes to tour the world with mega artists.

I’m not here to tell you manifestation sucks, but real talk most people are doin it wrong. And if you’re an artist or you’re carrying around some big dream, getting this part right is everything, because done wrong it backfires on you.

Cuz the problem with visualizing Ws you haven’t actually earned yet is your brain can’t tell the difference. It pays out the good chemistry early, that warm little rush like it already happened, and quietly lets you off the hook. You feel like you moved. But you’re still stuck.

Think of it like eating a giant meal in a dream. You wake up still starving, but now you’ve convinced yourself you already ate, so you don’t go looking for real food. That’s manifestation done wrong. It feeds the part of you that was hungry to feel like a winner, and starves the part that actually had to go win.
And that’s the part I worry about. I’ve watched too many talented artists ride that high, then crash when the real world doesn’t match the daydream. They start thinking they’re the problem, that they didn’t want it bad enough or vibe hard enough, when the truth is gentler than that. Nobody told them the vision was only ever the map. You still gotta walk it, and walking it means the unglamorous reps nobody’s around to clap for.

I’m on a mission to connect the world with music, and this is exactly why I wrote The DJ Diaries. I get deep into the science behind all of it, so we can finally get the mental health part right, for the artists and for all of us.

Stay tuned for the full episode dropping soon. And for DJ diaries book release in July. If you’ve got a friend still waiting on the universe to text back, send them this. You already know who.
🙏🏼❤️
