Two great works of devotion … one from the Victorian era and the other by probably the greatest living British composer of sacred music.
Also, advance notice - the Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town will be performing Händel’s Messiah on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, in the Cape Town City Hall. We were about to perform Messiah in 2020 when the first Covid lockdown was announced. It gives us great pleasure that we can sing it again this Easter!

Pete’s Garden, June 2010, Aloe Arborescens, my home in Kensington, Johannesburg. The pathway dates back to the late 19th century and linked the hostels and suburbs to the south - Denver, George Goch, Jeppe, Malvern, Belgravia - to the factories in Bez Valley, Bertrams and Judith’s Paarl, in the valley below Langermannkop and continuing on up to Bellville and Yeoville on the ridge to the north. Some of the sandstone steps are still in situ (not visible in this photo).
