SSF part 3

THAT’S A WRAP ON SSF26!

Another Southern Smoke Festival is in the books! We’ve been firing up the pits for @southernsmokefoundation since 2015, and nothing beats throwing down with our food and beverage family to help take care of our own.

Huge thanks to everyone who came out on our favorite day of the year! We served up our Smoked McRib Sliders on the lawn alongside SO many friends from far and wide, and together, we raised $2 million for industry workers nationwide!

Southern Smoke’s mission is to create a safety net of support for food and beverage workers in need, whether that’s direct assistance through their Emergency Relief Fund or no-cost counseling through the Behind You Program.

3,650 days of marriage. 0 hours spent at the DMV changing my last name. Happy 10th anniversary, @patrick84_03 - thanks for getting it, and me.

Dammit @patrick84_03 ! You made me leave the house.

What better reason to get out than @fegesbbq ‘s take on a certain pork sandwich that’s definitely not a McRib. And it’s not. It’s denser. More like a burger. But damn it is satisfying and wonderful, especially with some of my favorite fries in Houston, Feges’ ultra-crispy tallow fries. I would order this regularly if it were on the menu. It’s this weekend’s special.

I feel bad because I haven’t been here in many months or even possibly this year. I was too broke to go anywhere. Things are better now. So I added a little smoked turkey to my order. It’s always a solid choice at Feges. And I couldn’t resist the temptation for wings. No disappointments today. Everything met or exceeded expectations.

I do love the turkey kinda on its own, but I also love it with the Alabama white sauce. I also love the white sauce with the tallow fries.

Anyway, if you love McRibs like I do but prefer better quality meat without a weird ingredient list and like supporting local, get over to Feges this weekend! I might even have to go back tomorrow. At $14 including fries, it’s a no brainer. I do wish I had ordered some hog fat corn bread. Well, and more of their great sides. But I already over ordered. The turkey and the wings will keep me full for another 2-3 meals.

Sorry it took me so long to go back.

This summer we hit the coasts. West Coast back in June and East Coast last week. Discovering these beautiful pockets of our country with Wyatt is the best part.

Here’s a glimpse into our east coast trip that started in Boston and ended in Somesville, Maine.

We’re honored to be joining an incredible lineup of pitmasters from around the country at @holysmokeschs on November 14.

We’ll be representing Los Angeles alongside some of the best in barbecue for a day of live fire, great food, and even better people.

If you’ve been thinking about making the trip, this is the year. Grab your tickets through @holysmokeschs—we’ll see you in South Carolina.
