BTS - BEGGING the silent horizon 🎥

In „BEGGING the silent horizon,“ Soha, an unaccompanied shy 14- year- old girl, embarks on a perilous journey to the West with a group of refugees and smugglers. She faces not only the hardships of the escape but is also raped by the smugglers. Wali, another young refugee, supports her on her path to a longed-for future in the West.

Many thanks to Reihaneh and the whole crew for this journey. Hopefully it won’t just remain a teaser, but will soon become a feature film.

A BTS look at my assignment to document the oldest ice core at the Alfred Wegener Institute (@awiexpedition ) for Saving Stories Trapped in Ice feature in the December issue of the @natgeo magazine.
Working in an environment where every minute counts, and in conditions as extreme as below 30 degrees C inside the freezer lab, while also covering the outside in balmy 20+ degrees, I needed a lot of cameras.
I also opted for some extreme lens selection - thank you @ljudbildmedia for your assistance. I chose these lenses for two reasons. As this was my first assignment for the magazine, I didn’t want to play it safe. I needed to approach it as another day at work and try to forget that this was for National Geographic. I wasn’t convinced those lenses would create AMAZING images, but since I’d shot in this lab before, trying something new helped me be creative again.
I also had an additional thing to consider and work with, @patrick__junker was there to document the BTS of the assignment for a potential Pictures of the Year feature and social media.
And @elias.martn took all these beautiful BTS images. Thanks @jan_bella_photo for being such a legend!

For the past three years, I’ve worked with Ulrika Larsson (@greenulrika ) on the idea that the history of our planet’s climates and the history of humanity are written into the ice. An 8-page publication in the December issue of Nationnal Geographic brings this critical story to a new and larger audience.

💎Wie so oft im Leben kommt nicht immer alles so, wie wir es uns wünschen und trotzdem ergibt es rückblickend fast immer einen Sinn. 🕊️
Die letzten Jahre habe ich mir immer mehr gewünscht endlich meine Berufung leben zu können. Deshalb kam es wohl auch so wie es nun gekommen ist. Im Dezember 2025 wurde ich in meinem Angestellten-Job gekündigt. Erst war es ein Schock, schließlich brach mein sicher geglaubtes Netz in sich zusammen. Aber tief in mir wusste ich: Es ist Zeit, Zeit endlich meinen Weg zu gehen. 🧘 🫁 Somit wurde mir eine Entscheidung abgenommen, die ich selbst so bisher nicht treffen konnte.
Ich glaube ganz fest daran, dass wir alle ein erfülltes Leben verdient haben. 💖Schwierigkeiten wird es immer wieder geben, aber wenn wir aus unserem Herzen heraus entscheiden, was der nächste Schritt ist, kann das nie falsch sein.💜
An alle, die diese Worte vielleicht gerade brauchen:
Glaubt an Euch und denkt immer daran, dass wir alle nur dieses eine Leben haben. 🌈 Nutzen wir es weise.🙏🏼💫

Nadines grösster Wunsch: ein Kind. Doch für sie und ihren Mann Michael birgt dieser Traum auch ein Risiko: 25 % Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass ihr Kind nicht lebensfähig wäre. Drei ihrer Söhne mussten sie direkt nach der Geburt gehen lassen.
