Absolventen IKKG Final Exam Summer Semester 2026 (Series 4/10) Person:

CLAY AND THE BODY
Guest teaching at IKKG – Institute for Ceramic and Glass Art in Höhr-Grenzhausen, Germany

Two years ago Tontouristen collective was invited by Prof. Markus Karstieß for a three-week guest teaching. We developed the course „Clay and the Body“ with the objective to find new ways to express the relation between site, material and the body. As part of this, we collaborated with performance artist and researcher Dr. Nathalie S. Fari who contributed with her experience to the program.

The students explored how the body can sense, respond to and reflect place through observing, documenting, mapping and performing. Working in groups, they developed site-specific interventions that engaged with the embodied history of specific sites, such as the historic Kannofen, the renaturalized clay pit in Vallendar and the European Pottery Market in Höhr-Grenzhausen. The students used photography and video to trace their gestures and actions. The final results of the course were presented in form of an exhibition at the Kannofen.

Besides, we also visited the clay production site of the company Witgert, where we went for a guided tour trough the whole production process. We also made a stop at the nearby and biggest clay mine in Meudt.

Thank you IKKG (Markus, Nora, Lena, Jens), Nathalie, Firma Witgert and especially all the students for your presence, care and curiosity! 🫶☀️ We had a wonderful time with you! We were also happy to meet @goldenluckydean during their residency @neuerkunstvereinmittelrhein and @elmarferdinandhermann

The kiln measures over 40 cubic meters and is one of the biggest and few remaining ones in the city. It was fired last time in 2008.
Thank you IKKG (Markus, Jens, Nora, Lena), Nathalie, Charlotte and Sigerd Böhmer and especially all the students for your presence, care and curiosity! 🫶☀️ We had a wonderful time with you! Thanks also to the police who was so friendly to not give us a fine for entering the renaturalized clay pit in Vallendar. 😅

Nose first! IKKG explored the cultural history of smell in the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf. The exhibition “Die geheime Macht der Düfte” offered a path of volatile and sensorially tangible smells alongside artworks of the museum’s collection. From sacred incense and the stink of Paris in the time of Louis XIV, to Napoleon’s favorite fragrance, Farina Eau de Cologne, and onward to the smells of brand identities and the scent of the future. Constellations – In Between Spaces ✨ What a night. Our exhibition opened as part of First Friday Andernach and it was truly a full success. The rooms filled with conversations, encounters, movements, and moments that existed only once and exactly there. Artworks, performances, and people formed living constellations — connecting perspectives, disciplines, and energies. A huge thank you to all artists, performers, collaborators, partners, and visitors who made this possible. Your presence, openness, and curiosity turned the exhibition into what it was: not just a show, but a shared experience. Big thanks to @neuerkunstvereinmittelrhein @firstfridayandernach @ikkg_art_institute @uni_koblenz @klasseknapp @lisa_b_erbsenberg @dgeorgievaart and of course to all the Artists @kbeeni @wei.kai.chen @yishen__art @intelliginger @lulion_ @leon.st.foto @juhlz_ @anouk.hauser @tbsart @patrick_inthesky @jess_guelen @katjamoelich @yanqqianq and to the orga Team 🖤 All Photos by @tbsart Grateful, inspired, and still glowing. 🤍 #FirstFriday #ExhibitionRecap #ContemporaryArt #ArtCommunity #Konstellationen BetweenSpaces ArtEvent
