another show closing means another digi love letter, this one for the incredible cast of @anastasiathemusicalau !!!!
i miss seeing this beautiful show & CAST sooo much!!! ☄️💌

& of course have to say how much i miss seeing @georginahopson as anya, one of the BIGGEST sparkles of joy i’ve had this year was watching her in this role & singing these songs, it should be illegal to have a voice as gorgeous as hers 😭😭🪽

Watching Anastasia on September 19th felt so reminiscent of the days in 2017 where I would spend hours listening to the soundtrack and dream of seeing the show in person. When I woke up that day, I had a feeling that I’d be seeing covers. I can’t explain why I had that feeling, but I was certain, and when I got to the theatre and checked the cast board and saw that my feeling was right, I was thrilled.

I’d seen @deonezanotto play Lily three times back in Sydney in June and I just adored her performance. She took on the role so perfectly and gave such a memorable performance. I was so thrilled to see her again twice in Brisbane. Her version of Lily reminds me so much of Caroline O'Connor, who is the reason I love Lily so much. She sings my favourite song in the musical (Land of Yesterday) and Deone completely does it justice every time. Her voice fits the song so well. Her performance is hilarious, both in the way she says her lines but in her actions also. The way Deone is able to bring so much to the character through her physical performance alone is incredible. She brings such a heart and truthfulness to Lily that contrasts so beautifully with her humour and is always a true joy to watch.

I was especially excited to see @patrick_volpe as Dmitry. Getting to see my first ever Dmitry cover was such a special experience and I was completely blown away by the dimension and characterisation he brought to Dmitry. He reminded me so much of Derek Klena’s Dmitry – not only due to his voice being similar but also in the layers of his Dmitry. I loved uncovering different parts of him throughout every scene and finding more reasons to love the character. His voice as well, is just stunning and so different to what I'm used to, yet also made me feel like I was listening to the Broadway cast recording at times thanks to his similarity to Derek, and hearing his take on Dmitry's story and songs made the show so much more memorable for me.

It's such a pleasure to be able to see a show for the 17th and 18th time and still find new reasons to love it thanks to the incredibly talented covers up on stage. How special is live theatre?

While we would never suggest ‘that Swedish Group’ stole our album cover, our wax cylinder was in limited distribution in 1917, the other in the 1970’s………… You do the math!
It’s our final Opening Night for the Australian Tour of ANASTASIA, so I wanted to give a specific shout out to my fellow Onion Heads and Marshmallows. You have all made this tour truly ‘fabbka’! Let’s do this Brisbane! #anastasiathemusicalau
