Pittston Area Embraces the Challenge 🍅🏀 Change is part of the process. Growth is the priority. Pittston Area enters the “Badger” Marseco Memorial Tournament with a reshaped roster, leaning into development after a senior-heavy group graduated following a District 2 Class 5A title game appearance and state tournament run. Head coach Al Semenza spoke on the deeper meaning of the Badger Tournament — a game and now a tournament built to honor Anthony “Badger” Marseco, someone he coached and later worked alongside. Semenza emphasized playing with the same passion, drive, and energy that defined Badger, while appreciating the Old Forge community for continuing to preserve his legacy. On the floor, new leaders are emerging. Lucas Lo Presto (Jr.), a standout football athlete now stepping into a larger basketball role, is beginning to find his footing after limited varsity opportunities a season ago. With Pittston still discovering its identity, Lo Presto highlighted steady improvement, the hunger to compete, and the special motivation of trying to win one for Coach Semenza. He also pointed to the Pep Squad’s constant presence as fuel for the group. Jacob Ivey (Sr.) has been one of the steady voices through the transition. After a challenging early schedule and the loss of key seniors, Ivey spoke confidently about bouncing back, believing this team can return to the arena. The tournament holds personal meaning for him after a narrow championship loss as a freshman, and he echoed the impact of Pittston’s unmatched student support. New faces. New roles.
