Alarm clocks went off at 5AM for a 6:15 tee time. EDSA at the Magallanes Interchange was already doing its usual thing — gridlock before sunrise. A few generous blasts of the horn to accost the sleeping motorists, were required to remind some them that traffic is, in fact, supposed to move.

Still made it.

Labor Day weekend — and the start of the month — kicked off with an early 18-hole round at Villamor Golf Course, with Sagar putting the flight together.
Mel played from the reds. Howell and I teed off from the whites. Sagar, naturally, stepped up to the blues.

Early morning golf has its own personality. The fairways were still damp and the ground soft, so drives carried fine but didn’t run out much. Approach shots landed and held, and the greens were a touch slower while the dew was still hanging around. By midday, once the sun burns through the moisture, it’s practically a different course — firmer fairways, more rollout, and greens that start to pick up speed.

I had Ate Lyn on the bag, quietly keeping the round moving and helping read the greens while the rest of us tried to look like we had our games together.

Sleepy swings, a few solid drives, a handful of questionable putts, and the usual banter that happens when everyone’s still waking up and pretending they warmed up properly. We kept the mulligans to a minimum, so we ended on time! Considering I only picked up the game about a month ago, carding a 103 for the day felt like a fair result — plenty of room to improve, but enough good shots to keep the addiction going.

Not a bad way to open the month. ⛳

We didn’t hear it just once or twice but many times that night: The 90s Kabaklaan Show at Archivo 1984 took you back to your younger days big time. It was a ton of fun, and we loved having everyone over. But to those who missed it, we haven’t forgotten. Here’s another chance to relive the 90s via its posters, music and moving images: We’re opening the gallery for a 90S KABAKLAAN CLOSING SHOW THIS THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, 6-9PM. AND ALL ARE INVITED. We are inside La Fuerza Compound, Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City. Photographs in this post by @gericcruz
