This is our first St. Patrick’s Day without Patrick’s Roadhouse, but the renowned roadside diner is far from forgotten.

Originally a railway station, it was eventually repurposed and opened as Patrick’s Coffee Shop in 1973. Since then, the greasy spoon spot had gained worldwide notoriety as one of the landmark destinations along PCH. Keeping with the spirit of the American roadside attraction, the building’s bright green paint job makes hard to miss to the passing motorist. And in recent years, they had slowly begun adding an array of novelty statues to its roof, further committing itself to kitsch.

The restaurant’s lighthearted, laidback atmosphere, beachside location, and hearty diner fare made it a local favorite. Arnold Schwarzenegger was a well-known customer - he dined there so often that he had his own chair and dish on the menu (bauernfruestueck). Other celebrity regulars included Lucille Ball, Johnny Carson, Goldie Hawn, Sean Penn, and Jeffrey Katzenberg.

Patrick’s Roadhouse was no stranger to Hollywood. The restaurant’s namesake comes from now-actor Patrick Fischler, whose father founded the place when Pat was four years old. The Roadhouse was also name dropped by Keanu Reeves in the classic WestLA Core film, Point Break (1991). The diner was indeed also featured in two episodes in Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

It was sad to see Patrick’s Roadhouse close last year. I would consider it quintessential westside Los Angeles. The pandemic hurt them and they were struggling with their lease. They were raising money on GoFundMe to reopen, but there’s been no movement. The iconic building still remains however, and thankfully the Palisades Fire didn’t make it that far down the canyon.

Maybe Patrick’s second life sits just on the other side of the rainbow…

😅🤣😅🤣DUERMO EN UN RESTAURANTE!!! 🤣😅🤣😅

On February 29th 2024, for Leap Day I took a free day to explore all of the miscellaneous spots and stops which I never would have on any normal day. I took my less traveled route to whereever the road took me. No predetermined destinations, no clock, and limited use of GPS turned this extra day on the calendar into a mini scrap book. Here is just a sample of that day. PS- Anyone can do this when you don’t put pressure on yourself to make every second IG awesome, and instead let some moments simply be different, surprising, and always new. Someday can be today if you are open to let the whole world in.

Inman 300: Segment H, Part 2
Brentwood -> Pacific Palisades -> Castellammare. 14.1 miles, 8 staircases, and 680 stairs.

HELLO PACIFIC OCEAN!!! What a treat to finally reach you. The miles flew by with the incomparable Nick & @laurynterceira by our side, and although she was proudly very sandy, Ella seemed definitively unsure about the actual beach. Also we walked over 14 miles… oops?

THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to our @als team page. We have now reached $6712.00 raised for #alsresearch. 160ish miles down, and 60ish to go!

**NEXT HIKE Sun March 3 - beach hike p2! get hyped!
Next next hike is likely in April… 🥲✈️🥾

Patrick’s Road House🍀
🍔🍔🍔🍔
💸💸💸💸

I’ve driven by this place for the past three years and finally decided to stop because Chloe lost her car keys across across the street on the beach.

It was way better then we expected. The environment of the inside is quirky and fun and the amount of food they give you is insane. We will be going back to try more options but their patty melt was tasty and their fish and chips were good too.
