My papa always valued work life balance. In fact he would change his voicemail every winter that he had “gone bird hunting” and would return your call as soon as he “retrieved” the message. It always made me laugh like everything he did. Is our dog bringing him the voicemail like a bird in the field? 😂 As I build my own career I look back on the times I wasn’t as present with my family because I was working so much. My dad always asked me if I ever took time off, even when I was taking time off, as I was always available to my clients and team. I promised my papa I would live hard for him so I have been doing just that. No one dies thinking I wish I answered that work call instead of doing a mediocre dive off this yacht!!!

My family had a trip to Florida planned for May 4th of this year, but two days before we were supposed to leave, my dad unexpectedly passed away.

Our last true family trip had been eight years earlier, when we traveled to Croatia and San Sebastián to celebrate Pierce and Kaia’s engagement. Family trips were always a big deal to us. We loved being together always laughing, feasting and dancing!!

My dad had been talking a lot about wanting to go back to Europe to enjoy the time he had left. We knew realistically he probably wouldn’t be well enough to make the trip, but we always went along with the idea because we all loved exploring the Mediterranean countries of our ancestors.

After he passed, we were looking through our family group chat and found a link he had sent to a place he wanted us to visit in the South of France. We impulsively booked the trip right then and there.

It became our first family trip without our Buddy to commentate his beautiful, sweet, vivacious life.

Last week we celebrated my mama turning 70 and yes, she’s aging in reverse (manifesting the same for myself). She’s always been a force, like the kind of fire that never fades (like ever)((seriously, she’s a triple fire sign)). Brilliant, creative, multifaceted, adorable, yet tougher than anyone I know. This year I’ve watched her pour that same devoted spirit into caring for my papa, and it’s only deepened my respect and admiration for her.

My brother and I took her and her closest friends to The French Laundry for an unforgettable night that felt like a love letter to who she is. Mama, you’re worth every damn penny… and then some!! You deserve the world, and I’m working on delivering that asap! Cheers to Pasqualina, my muse 🤍 I adore you
