A little art to go with your morning coffee! This MAG mug features artwork by @paul_fosaaen, one of our extremely talented members of our community!!! I’ll have it with me at Social Hour tonight to show off, but orders can be placed through our website. We’ve got plenty of other MAG merch too, from tees and totes to socks, hoodies, hats and notebooks. More artist-designed pieces are coming next year, but these are the ones we’ve got right now! I got to hang out with @_studiopractice in her studio recently and show her one of my painting techniques! I've wanted to explore this process with another artist for a while now. Gretchen and I have known each other for a few years now, and I asked her a while back if she wanted to give it a try. Keep swiping to see what we both came up with. While I'll probably never share this process publicly, I do think it's important to talk about how you work with other artists you trust. We talked a bit about our own creative processes, and I learned a lot from Gretchen during our meetup. She offered me a unique perspective on my 3D paintings too and gave me something to think about for future paintings. If you aren't already, follow @_studiopractice! Gretchen makes vibrant and spontaneous watercolors and she also makes candles! I'm probably missing something else here, so give her a follow and find out for yourself! I'm excited to share these upcoming classes with everyone! I'll be teaching "Mindful Mark-Making" at Gladje Gallery on July 30th from 6 - 7pm. I'll also be teaching my intro to three-dimensional painting class at two different locations in August and September! First I'll be teaching a one-day class on August 8th at Hallberg Center for the Arts from 1 - 4pm. Then I'll be teaching a longer three-day class at Creative Flow Art Center in September! I'm really grateful I can offer both versions of this class. Some people might not have the time for a three-day class, so the one-day class at Hallberg is the perfect introduction to what I teach. The three-day class is great for people who really want to dive in. My students had so much fun with that before and I was blown away by what they created! And that's what I love about my classes. I don't have any expectations for anyone. I just want people to show up and make whatever feels right for them. You can see from my students' examples that there are so many different ways to explore with your art. I can't wait to see what people come up with in these next classes! That brings me to my last point before I wrap this up. None of this I could do on my own. I get inspired by my students and I'm grateful for everyone I've met since I started teaching. They've consistently shown me there's no wrong way to make art. What matters is that you're creating. I also couldn't do any of this without my trusted assistant teacher, Barney. He comes to every class with me, and he teaches lessons even I can't teach by myself. All my students know this. I wouldn't be offended if they said they come to class to see him and not me. If you come to my classes, you will meet Barney and that's a promise! Images protected by ArtShield.io . . . . . . . #mnartist #mplsart #artteacher #artseducation #paulfosaaen

I finally was able to stop by @creativeflowartcenter this weekend and see the THAW exhibit (running to the end of this month!) I recently learned my painting “susurros de primavera” was awarded first prize by the judge(s)! My painting is nestled above two of @paul_fosaaen’s pieces and it’s the first show our works are in together! Here’s to more shared shows and wall spaces together in the future.
