workstudy summer !!

i’m about to make what could be a simple post pretty deep, so bear with me.

about a year ago, i did a shorter session of baa that helped me come to the conclusion that i was following a path that wasn’t meant for me. i was feeling stuck in the “conventional path” and was betraying a part of myself in the process. it had gotten to the point where industry professionals and guest teachers that had just met me could tell i had lost my sense of self, both as a performer and as a person. that weekend, i made the decision to completely change the direction of my life and start pursuing things that actually aligned with who i am.

now, a year later, i came back as a workstudy and got placed in a major completely outside my comfort zone, which ended up being such a blessing in disguise. i learned more than i could’ve imagined this past week and started having breakthroughs i’ve been waiting years for. i also noticed a night-and-day difference in the feedback i was receiving. instead of teachers struggling to get me to a place of honesty and vulnerability, they were able to give me feedback on how to shape and deepen the work i was already doing. for the first time in a long time, i let my art come from a place that felt honest to me instead of trying to perfect it until it lost its truth.

thank you, @baaofnyc (and @iamtnyc), for helping me realize i don’t have to sacrifice who i am and my wacky unconventionalness to have a place in this industry. i’ll forever be grateful for the joy, confidence, and love you’ve helped me rediscover in my craft.
