To find my happy place, I have to write and produce. Apart from spending time with my family, there's nothing quite like directing and being on set.

That's where I feel most at home. It's where I get to create, bring stories to life, work with great people and make new friends along the way.

After all, life isn't just about reaching the destination. It's about enjoying the journey, learning from the mistakes, celebrating the victories and getting back up when things don't go to plan.

So whatever it is you love doing, make time for it. Enjoy the highs, learn from the lows and don't spend so much time worrying about where you're going that you forget to enjoy where you are.

Because at the end of the day, the journey is what makes it all worthwhile.

Don’t let criticism discourage you from creating. Some will miss things, some will nitpick, and some simply won’t like your work for reasons of their own. That’s okay. Listen to criticism, learn from what’s useful, and ignore what isn’t.

Art is subjective. Your job isn’t to please everyone. Create something that means something to you, then hope those who experience it appreciate it.

At the end of the day, you have to believe in what you’ve created. Keep creating.

When you direct, you need a plan. On this shoot, all I had was a shot list because I hadn’t seen the location beforehand, so I had to adapt. I also combined several shots into a single oner to save time.

When you’re working with a micro budget, experience is your greatest asset. You have to solve problems on the spot and keep moving. “Fake it till you make it” doesn’t work on a film set. The people who know what they’re doing will spot it straight away.

We’re incredibly grateful to be part of the SIMI Film Festival with Rebecca Gold! 🎬🇺🇸

It’s going to be so much fun attending the festival, and I honestly can’t wait!

After all the years, the tiny budget, the blood, sweat, tears and questionable decisions that went into making this film… we’re finally taking Rebecca to California! 😂

Looking forward to meeting everyone, seeing some great films, and hopefully figuring out how the hell I’m getting around without a car! 😂

See you at SIMI Film Fest!

There is an art to making films. And yes, I think we can still call them films, even if most are now shot digitally.

People can subconsciously sense when something has been made with love and passion. It’s in the script, casting, direction, camera work, lighting, locations and performances. All of it has to make you feel something, whether that’s laughter, sadness, tension, joy or exhilaration. If a script makes you feel something and keeps you turning the pages, you’re already off to a good start.

As a producer, writer and director who still sits outside the UK film industry, I believe casting the right person is essential to authenticity. I’m not against DEI. As a man of colour, I believe in diversity, but I don't believe it should ever come at the expense of the story or be reduced to ticking boxes. Cast the character, not the category.

Independent filmmakers don't always have the luxury of big budgets, industry connections or endless casting choices. Sometimes we work with whoever believes in the project because, quite simply, we have no choice. That doesn't mean we value actors and crew any less. It means we're trying to make something with the limited resources we have.

The film industry can feel like a closed door, especially if you're working class and don't have the right connections. But today, maybe we don't need that door to open.

You have a camera in your pocket, the internet at your fingertips and millions of hours of free knowledge on YouTube. So if you have a story inside you, no money, no experience and no idea how you're going to make it, find a way.

Make mistakes. Learn. Make the film.

You don't need permission to be an artist.

As Stan Lee said:

“Nuff said!”

Something is watching… 👀

I’m excited to finally share the first look at The Midnight Guardian, an upcoming feature film currently in post-production.

It’s been a wonderful experience being part of this team and bringing this story to life.

Andrea’s world takes a very unexpected turn when one night leaves her in danger, with a mysterious voice on the other end of the phone becoming her only guide to survival.

A project I’m very proud to have been part of, alongside a fantastic team. 🎬 More to come!
