This is going to be fun! 😍 On October 25th at the Tett Centre, Kingston Pop Choir is back for its 10th round, and we’re singing “The Fate of Ophelia” by Taylor Swift in rad 3-part harmony!!

~ Event Details ~
Sunday, October 25, 1 to 4 pm
Rehearsal Hall (2nd Floor)
The Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning
Cost: Pay What You Can!

Each month in 2026, Kingston Pop Choir is bringing together a room full of people to learn and sing a song - no auditions, no experience required, no long‑term commitment. Each session features local musical artists who lead the group in an arrangement of an original song or a beloved cover. These are one‑day choirs: playful, welcoming gatherings where folks come together to sing, connect, and create something bigger than themselves.

This month, we’re welcoming back Steph Drouin & Paul Barton! Steph and Paul are the founders of Kingston Pop Choir and longtime community singing facilitators. In a world where everything moves so fast, and neighbours no longer know each other’s names, they feel the most important contribution they could make is to re-weave place-based community. Getting people singing is their favourite way of bringing people together. And they couldn’t be more excited to be bringing Paul’s new choral arrangement of “The Fate of Ophelia” by Taylor Swift to this month’s meetup!

Don’t worry about preparing in advance. We’ll guide you through the process step by step. Lyric sheets will be provided. PWYC options available. No one turned away for lack of funds! All voices and ages are welcome. 🤗

Tag a friend who’d love this. Can’t wait to sing with you!

I fell in love with this song (Rising Tide) when I first heard it around a fire in 2018 (was anyone else at RiverSong?!). Of course it is by our dear friend, Paul Barton, who writes the most beautiful songs with simple, yet profound lyrics. Check out his website and his Patreon for so many amazing songs to sing together.

We’ve been singing this one at the Tuesday morning song circles which have been going really well. Yesterday we had an especially nice circle. I am always happy when there is a good turn out. Turns out, to reap all the benefits of singing with others, you need people to sing with!

Also want to plug that the three of us (myself, Amahla and Penelope) will be leading a song circle in Hamilton on Sunday October 25, 1-3pm. If you have friends in Hamilton who might like singing with us, please pass along the info! All voices are welcome, no experience necessary. The link is in my bio.

Thanks for watching and reading! Appreciate you! ❤️🫶🏽

Come “let your heart all out” at this special Tragically Hip community singing workshop with members of Kingston’s very own Road Apples, Sunday, September 27th, from 1 to 4 pm at the Tett Centre! All voices, ages and levels are welcome. 🙌

Each month in 2026, Kingston Pop Choir is bringing together a room full of people to learn and sing a song (or two!) - no auditions, no experience required, no long‑term commitment. Each session features a local musical artist who leads the group in an arrangement of an original song or a beloved cover. These are one‑day choirs: playful, welcoming gatherings where folks come together to sing, connect, and create something bigger than themselves.

This month, we’re welcoming Mike Compeau and Rob Lord as our special guests. They are two founding members of Road Apples, Canada’s original and premier tribute to The Tragically Hip. Since forming the band in Kingston in 1992, Mike and Rob have helped lead Road Apples through four decades of performances at theatres, festivals, and concert venues across Canada, earning a reputation for capturing the spirit and sound of The Hip’s legendary catalogue. They will be teaching us TWO songs by The Hip, including Ahead By A Century.

Don’t worry about preparing in advance. We’ll guide you through the process step by step. Lyric sheets will be provided. Pay-What-You-Can options are available. No one turned away for lack of funds!

More info and tickets at the link in our bio! Please reach out with any questions. 🌻

Credits & Thanks:
“Let your heart all out” is a lyric from The Hip’s song “The Dark Canuck,” which you can find on their 2002 album “In Violet Light.”

We are deeply grateful for financial support from the City of Kingston and the Kingston Arts Council through the City of Kingston Arts Fund. Thank you! We’d also like to thank the Kingston Music Office for providing extra funding to support this special Tragically Hip session. ✨ Sonja Moller-Hatfield did an incredible job of bringing to life Batya Levine’s “We Rise.” Her arrangement was powerful, and she also blew us away with the solo vocals she added on top. Wowza! The room was filled with a powerful, prayerful energy that brought some of us to tears.

Our next Kingston Pop Choir session is on September 27th at the Tett Centre. Mike Compeau and Rob Lord, two of the founding members of the Road Apples (Tragically Hip Tribute Band), will be teaching us a couple of their favourite songs by The Tragically Hip! All voices are welcome. No previous singing experience is required.

On August 23rd, we had the joy of hosting Sonja Moller-Hatfield as the special guest for the 8th-ever session of the Kingston Pop Choir. Sonja taught us her arrangement of Stan Rogers’s “Barrett’s Privateers,” and before long, we felt like we were part of Barrett’s crew, sloshing our mugs of tea around on the deck of the Antelope! ;) Song is such an awesome medium for storytelling!

This is a clip from our Family and Friends Song Circle in early July. This was our culminating song circle to celebrate the end of our spring season. In community singing, rather than having an end of term performance, there is often a ‘Big Sing’, where we gather up all our people to sing the songs we have been singing together. It is such a great way of sharing some of the magic of community singing with those who are important to us. Our regular circles are Tuesday mornings and these bigger circles are Saturday morning, so everyone can come out.

This song is “We are a Forest” by Kestrel Feiner-Homer, a songleader in Minneapolis. Penelope @nelopecat brought it to our circle and we first learned it from Steph and Paul @FiercelyOK. It is such a fitting song that speaks to belonging and connection, connection to each other, connection to our ancestors, connection to the natural world. I love the idea that our community is like a forest, and by singing together each week, we are strengthening our bonds and our sense of belonging.

I’m hosting another pop up song circle in Withrow Park today, if the rain holds out. Look for me to the east of the basketball court, 12:30-1:30. It will be a small circle, but small circles are nice too! Also, don’t forget about the kids swap happening at the market, 9am-1pm. Swap your stuff, then come sing with me!

ALSO! Our fall season of Tuesday morning song circles will start up again on September 15 and run for 6 weeks until October 20. I would love to sing with you! It is so much more than singing. We also do a sharing circle and it is a really nice opportunity to open up about some of the struggles of early (and late) motherhood, or just life in general, if you would like. I find that this type of sharing really helps to connect the group and help us feel like we are not alone in our struggles. And then we feast on a delicious homemade soup and sourdough bread. It really is a perfect way to spend a Tuesday morning. Link in bio to register.
