To my good friend and brother Ted,
Let’s be honest. I thank my God for the years that we’ve shared life together, from singing in Twist, grabbing lunches, laughing, to cheering on the Vikings as season ticket holders, to deep, rich and meaningful faith-filled conversations and truly doing life together as friends and with our fmailies. You have been a gift to me from the Lord.

I thank my God for you and for our friendship. You’re a brother in Christ I’ve always been able to count on. I pray you had an incredible day, and that this next year the Lord would bless you, guide you, and fill it with more joy than you could imagine.

Cheers to you, brother Ted. Happy Birthday! 🙏❤️✝️

It’s a long way to go for a half an hour.

To fly to Wisconsin 30 hours after getting home from New York.

To leave for the airport before dawn for the third Thursday in a row.

To proclaim “God is good. All the time.” Even when the man who made that his life mantra is stolen by cancer at 56.

To call in sick from work (my boss knows 😉) to sing worship songs written by a man now worshipping for all eternity.

Why?

Because that’s what family does.

We worship with those who worship and we weep with those who weep—sometimes we do both at the same time. ❤️‍🩹

Taiwan Trip 5/5

A bit of sharing from Little about her trip!

These photos didn’t really fit into any of my categories but they were still some photos I thought I would share. Night markets, beautiful buildings, and a picture with one of the classrooms we met at the school. Also when we arrived we went straight to a baseball game! Baseball is a big deal in Taiwan and we made it on the big screen. 🥰

I am so grateful to everyone who made it possible for me to be on this trip! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!

Taiwan trip 4/5

From Little to share about her trip.

Both of my host families were absolutely amazing. They were the sweetest and most generous people. The first one we stayed with for two nights and they took us up to their vacation home in JiLong (the very tip of Taiwan) and the second one was for one night. The first one had two little boys who were the funniest kids I have ever met, and we got to teach them go fish! And the second one was with two girls, one a third grader and the other a seventh. Both experiences were so different but both unique and beautiful in their own way 💕 with my second host family we went to a night market and got to try so many different snacks! My favorite were the crispy bread and sweet potato balls!

I know she loved her time with Host families. It was an opportunity to see the country thru a non-school lens. To be in a home and interact with families. 🥰

Taiwan Trip 2/5

From Little to you to share about her trip!!!

The nature was so beautiful. Mountains everywhere, which if you’ve been to Minnesota you know that’s a rare sight. The scenery was just so green and filled with different shapes. The most amazing thing is to see mountains on your right and ocean on your left, never a dull moment on the buses ❤️

She asked us for a bunch of photos of our home and community garden because her Host families were so fascinated with our flat land. Taiwan is a small island with a mountain range running thru the middle so everything is built around them. 🥰

I love you sweetheart! Happy Father’s Day!!!!

@paultietjen you are love and laughter and witty and hilarious and steadfast and creative and caring and I am so grateful to do parenting with you.

I didn’t know the journey would look like this, but you are a fantastic improviser in this wild ride.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing up for us, for working thru the hard, for listening and struggling and compromising and learning and loving.

We love you so much!

Also, your ability to find creative solutions in our life like this flooding water hack keeps us going and dry! 🤣🥰

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!!

The Tietjen Duo is officially over.

#polarbaseball had its last game last night and it was…. Complicated.

When saying goodbye to this season of our lives, what I want to focus on is what I am grateful for:

It was fun to watch how this activity brought laughs to the boys. It created bonds outside of responsibilities and built relationships.

I watched my boys have choices they had to make, and while sometimes they choose differently than I would have, they made thoughtful choices based on their set of values. It made me proud of how intentional and convicted they were.

I watched my boys encourage each other. Root for each other. Be absolutely pissed at the other one, and find a way through it to root again for other.

I watched Big give up his catcher position to protect his knee and take a fielder spot but never give up his encouragement and team leadership to inspire the team forward. He got more comfortable with his brace and is ready for fall season at @stscholastica football.

I witnessed them not give up on themselves. While they won 2 games (the best season North has had in YEARS) they still got shut out and shut down the rest of the time. And while that defeated them in previous years, I saw them fight thru it this year. They didn’t give up on themselves or each other. And it was beautiful to witness.

They played stronger this year than they ever had, and you don’t here without the years before of struggle. And while they lost (and sometimes badly) they were pulling off solid plays they couldn’t before. They are growing and learning and that space can be hard and they kept going.

We got to watch our boys play together and that was just fun. 🥰

High school baseball is now over and I am grateful for the time we had to watch them play together. I don’t anticipate that happening again. Their life paths are so different and taking them in different directions, so watching this thing that brought them together? It felt extra special.

Super grateful for @paultietjen and all the time and encouragement and support and practice he invested with the boys as an assistant coach.

Thank you boys for the privilege of watching you play together.
