I’ve said it before, and I’m going to say it again… color isn’t making a comeback. It never left!

I’ve always believed there’s a place for color in design. Trends may tell us when to go beige, when to go bold or what shade is having its “moment,” but I don’t think a home should ever be designed around a trend alone.

Color brings personality. Natural wood brings warmth. Pattern brings character. And when you layer them in a way that feels right for the home and the people living in it, they don’t need to be “in” or “out.”

So yes, I’m loving that we’re seeing more color at the forefront of design again but around here, it never really went anywhere!!

As summer draws to a close, I am extremely grateful to share that I will be joining Tulsa Ballet as a Trainee for the 26/27 season !! ⋆˙⟡ 💐

- As I begin a new chapter in my journey, I look back with so much gratitude for my teachers and time spent at @aaballetcenterfordance , these past two years have brought tremendous growth and taught me many lessons. I am especially thankful to Ms. Ela ( @elaments ) for your help in pushing me into finding a more versatile side of myself, and the mindset coaching that has changed how I work, and think for the better. I’m so excited to begin this new chapter !! 💕💕

The smaller the powder room, the more fun you can have with it.

I always tell people that if there’s one room in your home to take a design risk, it’s the ones that you don’t spend all of your time in. Bold wallpaper, dramatic lighting, a statement mirror, unexpected color…this is the place to do it.

Would you go bold in a powder room, or do you prefer to keep it classic?

3 ways to modernize a historic home without losing its charm…

I’ve always loved renovating old houses because I think what makes a house charming are the things that aren’t quite perfect, or the parts you kind of have to work around in an interesting way. And in big old houses… there are plenty of those. But if you really want an old house to work for a modern family, there are a few things that have to happen:

1. The flow has to make sense
If it’s zig-zagging through a bunch of small spaces that you can’t really use in real life, it’s just not functional. Getting a floor plan that actually makes sense is everything.

2. Bathrooms need to be functional and you need enough of them
A lot of old homes have one, maybe two bathrooms, and not even a half bath on the first floor. Adding a bathroom on the main level is a must, and making sure the rest of the house has an adequate number is the only way it really works for a modern family.

3. Lighting is a big one
Old houses often don’t have overhead lighting, just plug-ins for lamps. Adding overhead lighting, and if you can, layering in wall lighting so you’ve got light coming from different directions, is the biggest win.

Remember this kitchen?

@tamaraday kept a natural feel to this home by adding chandeliers over the second island with wood-look natural beads. The kitchen before was really dark and heavy, and each of the islands were different lengths… so our team shortened the outer island and made them symmetrical, which left enough room to build a full banquette seating in the corner!

Which detail catches your eye first? The custom island, the lighting, or the banquette seating?
