POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Friday April 24th, we pulled it off. Something that’s been in the works since last summer.
Idea came about around October of 2024.
Some time passed, and the summer of last year I finally pursed it further.
Myself with the help of Amos, we worked with LtCol Lim of the United States Marine Corps. But to be Honest, Lim did all the leg work to make this happen.
Through a few government shutdowns and it being put on hold, it was finally approved end of January, early February.
Then came the “how are we going to do this” phase.
I worked with Ryan, and the Circle Cinema to set up a poster signing at the circle. And we used that as a way to get everyone together. Manny was under the impression that we were going to have a small poster signing ceremony, and watch the trailer as a promo for the upcoming Circle Cinema Film Festival.
That afternoon I picked up LtCol Lim from the Airport, as he flew in from Camp Pendleton to be present and to present the award in person.
Roughly 100 family, friends and supporters gathered at the circle for the event that had been planned for almost the last year.
We all packed into the theater, to what Manny thought was going to be the trailer, but was actually a video.
It’s short thank you’s from multiple Gold Star Families, Marines, family, friends and supporters of our @makepeaceordie
The short played, and directly after in the lobby Manny’s citation for the “Meritorious Public Service Award” was read. And the medal was pinned on him by a Gold Star Father. The evening went as I hoped, and Manny had no idea of this whatsoever.
He’s put, and continues to put countless hours of work into the film, and it was fitting and well deserved to be recognized by the Department of the Navy, and the United States Marine Corps.

From Manny, our film’s director: “Friends, I am beyond humbled. Last night I went to the @circlecinema for what I thought was a poster signing ceremony for our film “Make Peace or Die.” Family, friends, Marines and members of our crew all gathered. Prior to the signing, we went into the theater for a quick viewing of the film trailer before the poster went on the wall…or so I thought. Instead, it was a video message from our Gold Star Families, my parents, fellow filmmakers, Marines I’ve met and friends congratulating me. I was being given the Meritorious Public Service Award for my role as director of the film. I had no idea this was happening, and I broke down in tears.

When we exited the theater, Lt. Col. Alex Lim was standing at the podium. I respect this man so much and I couldn’t believe he was in Tulsa. He read the proclamation out loud in front of the packed room (see it in comments). Mr. Gailey pinned the award to my chest. He is a supporter of our film and the Gold Star Father of Army Sergeant Christopher D. Gailey that was killed in Afghanistan in November of 2011.

I received this award on the 15th anniversary of the death of LCpl. Joe M. Jackson - KIA April 24, 2011. He was the first of the XVII to die on Anthony’s deployment. I dedicate this award to his memory, and to all those men that died on that deployment to Sangin. I thank our Gold Star Families for letting me tell their stories. I salute you Marines that have trusted me. To my fellow filmmakers, I appreciate you supporting my dreams. Lastly, I thank Lt. Col. Lim, Major General Thomas Savage and my brother Anthony. This is beyond anything I could have ever imagined. Semper Fi. #documentary #filmmaking #XVII #goldstarfamilies #USMC (photos by @reddirtmusing)

It's me, @yupyupyupmhm! Spring has sprung, or so it feels this week. About a year ago, a box about 10 times my size was delivered. Initially, I thought I could have this hoop house up in 3 months. Ha! It was a frustration filled experience, as I learned a few lessons the hard way. With a lot of help from friends, and family- and even more encouragement, we got it done. Now we have a little jump start on the season- we grew thyme and rosemary plugs along with snapdragons from seed over winter. We are very excited to start delivering in March. Over the next few months we will be adding even more offerings as @hilmarsta loves to start seeds! Big shout outs to @captdavcorsta @hilmarsta @paulychromatic @trammell.dustin , and the team @lightfootfarmok along with many more kind folks. Give us a holler this season if you're in the market for regeneratively grown herbs and flowers.
