40 years of Amsterdam, 40 years of Paupers. One night that felt like both!

Thank you @bluemontyofficial & @altereager for the soundtrack, and @pauperspub for having us.

1986 - All I have to do is think about the year and the tears fog my eyes. It was my best of years and worse of years all contained in 12-long months. As I was wrapping up my 3rd year at the University of Northern Colorado. I spent that Memorial Day weekend with the 'rents in Estes Park BBQing, playing catch football and my dad sharing how proud he was of me and for the first time treating me as an adult. Less than 24 hours after I left he suffered a massive heart attack while playing golf with mom, gone before he hit the ground.

He would miss that moment a few month's later when one of the top, most respected news-talk stations in the nation, @koacolorado radio, hired me to join it's legendary news department, the launch of an illustrious 20-year career in journalism and media. '86 also included my first marriage, ill-conceived as it was, to my college female sweetheart.

While all that was happening in Colorado, here in Toronto, the wheels were turning creating what would become a significant portion of my path in life as Dave and @isabel.manore_ created their second pub calling it Pauper's. They transitioned what was once an old stately bank building into a thriving and popular gathering space filling it with music, drinks and food and the thousands that flocked to it in the following years that continues uninterrupted today with yours truly helping to keep the revelry and merriment alive maintaining the facility from it's basement to its legendary rooftop patio.

So it's time to raise a glass in memory and cheers to a significant year in my life and that of my colleagues and friends. 40 years seems forever ago and just yesterday. Join me, will you? 1986 deserves a raised glass, for it and those of us here to remember it! And best of all, I won't need to go shopping as I'm pretty sure my closet is forever locked in the late 80's. See you there!

You don’t need to be “good at socializing” to make new friends. ❤️

Because honestly… walking into a room and approaching strangers can be SO awkward. 😅

So we’re doing things differently.

What makes a neighbourhood truly timeless?

In Urban Utopia, writer Erica Dutra explores why The Annex continues to captivate residents more than a century after shedding its suburban past. Tucked between cultural institutions, historic homes, independent businesses, and pristine streets, the neighbourhood offers a rare blend of old-school charm and big-city amenities. From its rich architectural character and walkable streets to its strong sense of community, The Annex remains one of Toronto’s most enduring examples of urban living done well.
