The journey for the cinema launch started Dec 10th @festival_signs_of_the_night in Paris. Today we reach one of my main goals. To screen the film for the South African audience @sowetofilmmarket @eyethuheritagehall. @joannaskywalker @sibusiso_drs showed the world that it is possible to participate and unite through dance. Today’s screening as official selected documentary film. At a location that is so special for the narrative we are a tiny part of.#joannaisskywalking

En dokumentär berättelse om uttrycksfulla danssteg och om människans förmåga att övervinna motgångar och finna mening i livets upp- och nedgångar. Under fem år har regissören Maja Östberg och fotografen Jonte Wentzel följt dansaren Joanna Skywalker Holewa Chrona i möten med Pantsulakulturen i Sydafrika och den svenska naturen som ger henne ro och inspiration. Filmen är inspelad i bland annat Lummelundagrottan på Gotland!

DANSWORKSHOP FÖR UNGA
I samband med filmteamets besök på Gotland arrangeras en dansworkshop i slowmotion/popping och freestyle för unga (13-25 år) fredagen den 3 april klockan 15.00 på Revet i ledning av Joanna Skywalker! A shout out to all the dancers and choreographers who contributed to this film. We went to Gotland Sweden and filmed an adapted version of (IT IS CONTAINED IN…) performed and Choreographed by @joannaskywalker and @yared_tc

5 years ago a girl named @joannaskywalker popped up in my IG feed. Today we are officially selected at the 12 th Music Film Festival in Buenos Aires for best Choreography and dance filmed!
What an honor.
To dig deep into another culture opens up a new universe, new perspectives, new knowledge about our history. Thank you @joannaskywalker for letting me and my team follow you to South Africa - Orange Farm and observe over years to understand this beautiful, powerful culture - Pantsula. We’ve learned so much from everyone we met. Especially the YeboYes crew, @sibusiso_drs, @tr3sa @gugumalenda @davidmokale with this amazing music from the clip Produced by @aquaman_kasa, the energy and positive vibe from @slindilesithela and all contributing families. Thank you all for welcoming me and my film crew to Johannesburg with open arms and tremendous generosity. With @joannaskywalker guiding us in the right directions we’ve made so many friends and learned about the Pantsula culture. We are happy to share a glimpse of the history in our film spoken through dance, poetry, music and love.
When visiting Thapelo ”Goofy Guy” Diane he delivered a once in a lifetime experience. Here is a sneak peek of what’s more to come in the documentary feature Joanna Is Skywalking. The Film Festival Launch is on. Swedish Cinema Launch March 20th. And we will do our best to hit the silver screen in Your neighborhood.

TODAY 10th dec 2025 our film is premiering in PARIS at the Festival International Signes de Nuit ✨️🙏

There is too much to say and at the same time im struggeling to say anything at all. But here goes something:

In 2020 Maja Östberg and her independent film company called and asked to do a documentary about me...it was not an immediate yes from my side but fast forward, after 5 years of filming and navigating, we are here at this moment where its time to let go. Let this film and the stories inside fly free. As we always do with the art projects we work on...we only own them until we have to set them free...free for others to interpret, to enjoy, to consume. I have been holding on, twisting and turning all my complex feelings and thoughts about being on the screen but now its time to surrender in order to embrace this journey.

Congratulations to the team - you did this!! Even if i did not show it at all times due to my own insecurities you have done an amazing job birthing this film. I have not yet had time to see the final result due to me birthing my own project at the same time...my solo performance...but I will see it soon!

And my biggest humblest thank you to my closest friends, collegues and family that is both appearing in the film but also kept supporting and grounding me when i have been spiraling and thinking that i want to back out of it all. You are a big reason to why this film now exist, because knowing your stories will be told too kept me going 🌿

This film is not about me. Its about the power of dance.
