RSD 2026 was a blast! Thanks to everyone for the support, especially all those who camped out in the rain and the DJs who kept us groovin all day long. Y’all are the best! 🖤

Chicago (Girls) Street Portraits: Black Girls Are The Inspiration, a photographic documentation and love letter of sorts to the magic of living and the magic of being Black as a brother of mine reminded me. This past Bud Billiken Parade was our third effort in growing this heartfelt project where myself , Dr. Lewis, and a group of incredibly gifted image-makers and community organizers simply create space to celebrate and make photos of Black inventiveness, Black beauty, Black aesthetics with the hope and goal of reflecting our admiration and love for our people and gifting (that luv) it back to us. Looking forward to next year with plans of adding some core program elements that’ll help expand this project that’s full of language from the heart to youth in the city ❤️🖤💚

A little over 16 years ago a young man with a Caesar haircut and no winter coat arrived in New York City

No network
No connections
Just faith

When I first arrived I didn’t have big dreams or predetermined goals. I didn’t know where advertising would take me but I was committed to giving it a shot. I hustled, I learned everything on the job, and I moved my way up the ranks.

When I first arrived I didn’t have any friends. A chance encounter with an old classmate led me to finding my first chosen family in New York. We roamed the streets together finding every cheap happy hour to oblige our low five figure salaries. We made memories I’ll never forget. Those friends connected me with new friends, connected me with new friends, which connected me with new friends. Those friends became family. And now those families have families.

When I first arrived I was broken and I didn’t know it. I didn’t trust people fully. I kept to myself. I felt that I was the only person that I could depend on. This affected my relationships. I got my heart broken but I also broke hearts. The brokenness pushed me to get help. Therapy helped me find myself and become open to the idea of finding love. Then the day before the pandemic….I found an angel at Buntons World Famous . She helped me trust people again. She helped me open myself up. She became the partner I never knew I needed. Three years later she became my wife.

When I first arrived my relationship with God was transactional. I prayed when I wanted stuff. When things got hard I tried to use prayer like an ATM to transact spiritual favor. But then one day the challenges became too much. I surrendered. I knew I couldn’t handle it anymore, and I submitted myself to him fully. I went back to church. I got baptized again. I committed myself fully to making God the leader of my life.

Part of making God the leader of your life is that you have to go where you’re called. After 16 years in this wonderful city, God has given me an assignment on the west coast in LA.

I don’t know what this next chapter holds, but there’s one thing I know will get me through my next assignment.

Trust in God
Keep the faith

Love y’all,
Geoff

The only visible photo I have from the best weekend of my life 🥹.
I was able to witness LOVE IN SEVERAL FORMS.
Love between family, friends, sisters, lovers.
The forming of new connections still life to this day.
The trip that fed my soul & foreshadowed how my adult life and relationships will look 💜
None of this would have been able without the love between @xasiahx & @b4idied
