📺 "PRASAR BHARATI should do public service and not state service"

In 2014, promise was made by the then I&B Minister to end the “government fiefdom” over Prasar Bharati and recast it on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) model: autonomous in administration, free in editorial judgement, and accountable to Parliament.

Critical Sections 13, 14 and 15 of the PB, Act of 1990 remains unimplemented.
Section 13 requires a 22-member parliamentary committee, elected from both Houses, to oversee Prasar Bharati on Parliament’s behalf. No government has constituted it.

Sections 14 and 15 require a Broadcasting Council to receive complaints and guard political
impartiality. That Council has never been set up, and it follows that there is no system for editorial redress. The Board, meant to be professionally managed, has been filled with pliable bureaucrats.
