2.5 years, 10+ track days, 100+ “weekend” drives in the mountains, countless memories

as much as I loved pushing the ceiling of my skill and this car’s capabilities on track, this car will always be my (first and) favorite canyon car having spent so many evenings - weekdays and weekends alike in the mountains

A brisk night at Pier 27. The sharp geometry of the James R. Herman Cruise Terminal makes the perfect backdrop for the 996 Turbo.

Built in 2014 to welcome massive, modern cruise liners to San Francisco, the pier represents a total departure from the past. It’s a fitting parallel for the 996 Turbo—the controversial masterpiece that broke decades of air-cooled tradition to usher the 911 into the modern era, backed by the legendary Mezger racing heart.

Against the black water of the Bay, that unmistakable silhouette is undeniable. One continuous, sweeping arc unchanged in spirit, framed by aggressive turbo hips.

“A poor man’s 911”. Its always loudest in the back aint it? Lol well, in this case, it is. Mid engine, new exhaust, rear wheel drive, Porsche made the Cayman the way it is to turn and sound exceptionally. I cant even turn the cart in Costco without clipping a display.

Back at Laguna for the first time since last October: a year of barely driving on track, with a car I still don’t know well, but with a paddock full of friends/track nuts (old and new).

Beating my PB (1:35.3 → 1:34.9) was just a nice surprise on top… and had I not gotten too excited about the PB pace (and not completely blow T10 and T11 to close it out), that 34.1 would’ve been in the bag 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

Grateful to @rhodabueno for trusting me with her baby, and to @raymaninc and the @porschesanfrancisco team for getting her ready — inspection sign-off, fresh tires, all of it.

Now for to the “controversial” question: GT4RS or GT3RS at Laguna — which one to drive? Having tried both, I really can’t tell which one is “better”… two very different experiences for sure.
