The event features a full-day program where attendees can learn directly from top PCOS/PMOS experts, including Harvard Medical School instructors, world-leading researchers, state legislators and patient advocates. Sessions will cover nutrition, GLP-1s and other medications, fertility, mental health, metabolic health, hair and skin, testing, technology, research, emerging treatments, care across the lifespan and more. A separate half-day adolescent program is available for young people living with PCOS/PMOS and students interested in health, research, policy and innovation. Participants will hear from state legislators, clinical experts and patient leaders, then work on a real-world PCOS/PMOS challenge in a Policy or Innovation Lab.

WHO RELEASES FIRST-EVER GLOBAL INFERTILITY GUIDELINE, INCLUDING PCOS RECOMMENDATIONS ㅤ @who has introduced a landmark infertility guideline, now including updated recommendations for PCOS. ㅤ It was an honor for Sasha Ottey, Executive Director of @pcoschallenge , to serve on the WHO External Review Group for this guideline. This involvement is part of PCOS Challenge’s ongoing efforts to strengthen PCOS-related guidance and practice in ways that close gaps, elevate standards, and ensure patient-centered perspectives are integrated into care. ㅤ KEY PCOS-RELATED RECOMMENDATIONS ◼️ As part of PCOS care, it is good practice to offer support with lifestyle changes, including a healthy diet, regular physical activity and/or weight management. ◼️ Letrozole (Femara) as the first medication, rather than clomiphene citrate (Clomid) or metformin. ◼️ Use clomid and metformin together, instead of using clomiphene citrate alone or metformin alone in countries where letrozole is not used for this purpose. ◼️ If oral medicines are unsuccessful, use injectable gonadotrophins rather than laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD). ◼️ If these treatments still do not lead to pregnancy, in vitro fertilization (IVF) is recommended instead of continuing to wait without treatment changes. ㅤ VIEW GUIDELINE RECOMMENDATION SUMMARY https://pcos.ch/who-infertility-guideline-summary ㅤ VIEW FULL GUIDELINE https://pcos.ch/who-infertility-guideline ㅤ We recognize that some recommendations may not be fully feasible or affordable in all settings, and PCOS Challenge is committed to advancing solutions that balance evidence, access, and affordability. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormone and metabolic condition that can affect how often periods come, as well as skin, hair, mood, and long-term health. If you're a teen noticing changes or a parent supporting someone who is, understanding what’s normal and what might need follow-up can help guide early care. ㅤ WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ▪️ Irregular Means Different Things at Different Ages: • First year after first period: Irregular cycles are normal. • 1–3 years after first period: Cycles shorter than 21 days or longer than 45 days should be checked. • More than 3 years after first period: Cycles shorter than 21 days, longer than 35 days, or fewer than eight cycles a year should be checked. ㅤ These patterns may be a sign of a hormone imbalance such as PCOS. ㅤ ▪️ Research Insight: While hospitalizations for very heavy or unpredictable periods are uncommon, one U.S. case review found that PCOS was the cause in 33% of these cases among teens. This shows why it’s important not to overlook irregular periods or delay follow-up care. ㅤ WHAT YOU CAN DO ▪️ Find a Provider Familiar with PCOS in Teens: Pediatric endocrinologists, adolescent medicine specialists, or experienced gynecologists can help assess symptoms using teen-specific guidelines. ㅤ ▪️ Keep Track of Cycle Patterns: Write down how often periods come, how long they last, and any other changes like acne or increased hair growth.
