This AAPI Heritage Month, we’re reminded of the power of community and the healing that comes when we gather to honor our cultures and stories. San Mateo County Office of Education, in partnership with The Center’s Stop the Hate community partner Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center, hosted the 2026 MANA Youth Summit—centering substance‑use prevention and harm reduction while creating space for youth to connect with their roots, speak their truth and rise above pressure from alcohol, drugs and other influences. It’s that time of year again!

Pacific Islander MANA Youth Summit 2026
Theme: “Rising Above the Influence”
The Pacific Islander MANA Youth Summit is a culturally grounded, restorative justice–focused gathering that uplifts and empowers Pacific Islander youth across San Mateo County and surrounding communities. Now in its 13th year, MANA annually convenes 250+ youth, educators, and community partners in a powerful space centered on cultural identity, prevention, healing, and leadership.
This year’s theme, “Rising Above the Influence,” addresses the growing impact of alcohol and other drugs (AOD) on Pacific Islander youth, including the rise in vaping, cannabis use, and alcohol consumption. The summit will also explore the increasing popularity of kava among young people—honoring its sacred cultural roots while engaging in honest dialogue about responsibility, health, and substance use within Pacific Islander communities and the diaspora.

Through dynamic keynote speakers, powerful panel discussions, and culturally grounded storytelling, MANA promotes protective factors such as cultural pride, community accountability, mental health awareness, and restorative values. The summit reframes prevention through a strengths-based lens—equipping youth with knowledge, inspiration, and affirmation to make informed, healthy choices while staying deeply connected to their culture and community.

MANA is more than a one-day event; it is a long-term investment in Pacific Islander youth resilience, well-being, and leadership. Supporting our youth ensures that this critical, culturally responsive space continues to thrive and remain accessible to the youth who need it most.

Space is LIMITED. Don’t wait to register. Stay connected to @pcrc_smc for updates!

🌊Faith, Culture & Community, that’s the real trilogy!🌊

Through grief and triumph, Siua emphasizes kākou (Hawaiian for “togetherness”) and tātou (Tongan equivalent). Crediting his community for keeping him grounded during personal losses and professional highs.

“Before I belong in any industry, I have to belong to myself first.”

What an honor it was to welcome Tongan Actor Siua Ikale’o to Pasifika Pulse. Siua shared about his personal journey in the entertainment industry. How he’s managed to navigate self doubt, anxiety, and grief by relying on “Kakou” – the community and lessons learned at home. It was inspiring to hear of his bravery to “Do It Scared” while maintaining cultural values of Respect & Faith. There was an immense sense of pride in the room as we learned of the intentionality, care and talent Siua & the Chief of War team put forth to tell this story authentically.💙🌊💙

Siua hopes Chief of War inspires Pacific Islander youth to see themselves on screen and know “they’re next.” He celebrates the diversity and strength of our Pasifika people being portrayed beyond stereotypes — as leaders, thinkers, and storytellers. 🌊🌊🌊
