NOTTA ZINE 4.1 + 4.2 are out now.

A few excerpts from the poets and writers filling these pages — words born from art, memory, observation, conversation, and the strange little moments that stick with us.

Featuring writing by Ericson AF Proper, Christi Dutchess, Brad Sundgren, Annie Bolter, Tony Agnello, Ella Agnello, P.D. Edgar, Chelsea & Wayne.

Issue 4.1 was written in response to work from our [UNFRAMED] exhibition, turning the gallery into something more than a place to look at art — a place to react to it, write from it, and make something new because of it.

A very special thank you to P.D. Edgar for the design, the writing, and for continuing to give NOTTA ZINE its own wonderfully strange voice.

Come grab a copy at Notta.

Read the art. Read the words. See what happens in between.

“Washington, what news from Washing
-ton! a ton I wanted the light
on, a bright thing 2 watch spiders
with, and brought moths the size of green”

P. D. Edgar’s poem “Thread” has been paired with a dress from Jun Takahashi’s Spring/Summer 2024 UNDERCOVER show titled “Deep Mist”. Takahashi’s strapless mini dress features a sheer tulle overlay meant to resemble an alluring fog of spider silk - complete with bouncing embroidered spiders and a veil of pink rose appliques. The roses match the pink of the beguiling veil worn by the model on Takahashi’s runway. “Art,” as Oscar Wilde wrote in “The Decay of Lying,” is a “veil, rather than a mirror.” I was very taken by Edgar’s poem. The Web-as-veil functions as both a meditation on how a digital interface (or flooded inbox) can frame almost every human experience as well as how a human mind might be forced to conform to the logic of web browsers. Especially web browsers that increasingly rely on search results generated by AI. One of the poem’s most significant moments comes after the speaker shares an observation of spiders and a light that attracts moths “the size of green.” The line “i can not tear the Web” is one I will not soon forget.

Notta Ekphrasis
Where art becomes language—and language becomes yours.
Ekphrasis (pronounced ek-FRAY-sis) is the art of responding to visual work with words. Using what you see as a catalyst to create something entirely your own. It’s not about describing the piece perfectly…it’s about what it unlocks in you.
Some paintings don’t just sit on a wall…they speak.
At Notta Ekphrasis, we invite you to slow down, look closer, and let visual art spark something deeper. Through poetry, short stories, and personal reflections, you’ll respond to the work around you—turning what you see into something you can keep.
This is not about being a “writer.”
It’s about noticing. Feeling. Translating.
Led by PD Edgar, a writer and adjunct professor at Florida Southern College, this guided session will walk you through the process of ekphrasis and help you create pieces that some will come together as a take-home zine. A small, meaningful collection of the night. A memory you made.
Free to attend. Open to all levels.
Just bring your curiosity, we’ll handle the rest.
Event Details:
July 9, 2026
5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
