I’m grateful to the design community here for coming together to honor the life and work of Olle Lundberg… he will be missed by so many of us.

@lundbergdesign was my home for the six years I lived in California. It shaped me in countless ways, not insignificantly by the beautiful spaces and places I was lucky enough to spend my time. But far beyond that, the people. Today I am remembering Olle, and the whole LD family, with a whole lot of gratitude.

These last few months have been defined by reflection on both the work and the people that have defined LD:

Founded in material exploration, intuitive response, and refining ideas through making.

Guided by craft, curiosity, and collaboration.

The work of Lundberg Design continues. View the exterior of a Pebble Beach home as seen between trees and a forest with an ocean in the background

“Good clients care far less about what you’ve done than what your ideas for them are. Trust your initial instinct, and be ready to talk about a big idea. Listen carefully and find out what’s important, and then incorporate that into an approach that addresses those needs but also surprises and delights. Don’t be afraid of an unusual concept, because the unexpected is often what the client is hoping for. If you aspire to do good work, be bold and trust your initial reaction to a design problem.”

“Beyond talent, I believe that determination, stubborn focus, is what you need to succeed in a creative life. It is difficult to find that confidence, and without support and mentors, one never gets there. I have been fortunate in that I have found my voice, but I owe many for that gift.” - Olle Lundberg

Olle believed in me when everyone else thought I was crazy. Alchemy Springs was a dream we both shared - to bring this way of healing to San Francisco, a beautiful sanctuary of belonging, where differences dissolve, and we get back to the kindness of humanity.

He treated us, and all of his 'clients' like family. 8 years ago, he placed his bet on me, and for that I am forever grateful. Alchemy wouldn't be here today without his trust and leap of faith. I am devastated he won’t get to see the full vision, but I know he never doubted we would get there.

Olle, and the team @lundbergdesign, we promise to make you proud!

NEW! S9 E5: Transformative Architecture: Creating Intentional Spaces with Emily Pearl

Ever wondered how an architect’s mind works beyond blueprints and designs? Emily Pearl from @lundbergdesign joins us to undercover the secrets to transforming your personal environment into sanctuaries of efficiency and serenity.

Emily is licensed in California. She received her Master of Architecture with distinction from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a B.A. in Studio Art with honors from Dartmouth College. She has also studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and has trained professionally in Tokyo, London, and San Francisco.

We discuss practical routines that elevate everyday spaces, whether organizing kitchen drawers or setting up a calming hotel room. Our conversation also navigates the dynamic world of urban development from the trend of opting for renovations over buying new homes. As we reflect on life’s continuous transitions and the role architecture plays in these changes, we encourage you to embrace personal growth and the unique journeys that make each of us who we are.

We had a fantastic time hosting guests from a wide range of ages and backgrounds at our sold-out workshop as part of the @CenterArchDesignSF Architecture + The City Festival this past Thursday. We gave attendees a tour of our workshop and office, formerly a 1933 mattress factory building in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco; discussed the origin stories and design processes of various fabrications from restaurants, businesses, and homes; and provided a sneak peek of some of our exciting upcoming projects. A special thank you to our friend and client @charlesphansf for providing delicious fresh spring rolls. Architecture event at Lundberg Design in San Francisco.
