Medical Interventions or procedures can be helpful adjuncts to pelvic floor physical therapy for people recovering from pelvic pain ⬇️

💢 Pelvic floor botox blocks nerve signals that cause muscles to contract. Many people with pelvic pain have overactive pelvic floor muscles and botox injection can help normalize the tone by blocking these nerve signals for about 3 - 6 months.

💉 Peripheral nerve injections can help reduce nerve pain during the period the anesthetic is in effect, which is typically about 4 hours. If there is acute inflammation a nerve injection may cause relief past the period the anesthetic wears off.

⚡ Spinal neuromodulation is a surgical procedure involving the implantation of a device that intends to reduce pain by blocking nerve signals. Trials of the device can be tested in patients and if the pain relief is significant the device can be implanted. These devices can also be removed after implantation.

In some cases surgeries can help pelvic pain, particularly in cases of nerve entrapment or disease states such as endometriosis.

Still daydreaming of the OTs in Pelvic Health Summit from last weekend! Because there is truly no where else that brings the magic 🪄 of so many pelvic health passionate humans in one place, fangirl my pelvic health heroes (and it be semi normal 🤓), and learn from the best in the field.

The PHC was actually a sponsor at the event. I was absolutely obsessed with meeting and getting to know PHC members! Plus it was fun to channel my inner Oprah giving away stickers, posters, and free memberships.

Sujata had the most amazing time presenting about "Integrating Energetics in Pelvic Health" at the OTs in Pelvic Health conference hosted by @functionalpelvis at the @atstilluniversity . 🩷

She taught a room full of Pelvic Foor Therapists how to help their clients to heal beyond the physical through yoga-based energetic methods. 🧘

These therapists practiced leading their clients into a deep meditative state to decrease pain & pelvic muscle tension, assist with trauma resolution, and improve their connection with their body. 🙏

This lecture was just the a very small preview into all the innovative pelvic health techniques we will be exploring in our curriculum at The Integrative Somatic Healing Institute!

Meeting other passionate Pelvic OTs and the true Pelvic OT pioneer- Lindsey Vestal - was just the cherry on the cake! 🍰

What a great weekend we had at the #otsinpelvichealthsummit in Arizona! My heart was filled seeing so many wonderful friends from across the country again and meeting new friends...the Canadians were in the house this year! Thank you, Lisa @next.level.therapy, for asking me to assist in your manual skills lab...I was able to teach without the anxiety and prep 😂. I'm coming back to Cincinnati with new energy, new ideas, and my cup overflowing from all the hugs and love ❤️

Do you have SPD (Pubic Symphysis) Pain?

SPD pain presents as discomfort in the front of the pelvis. This is very common during pregnancy, but here are some helpful hints to keep you move comfortable!

1. DO NOT CROSS YOUR LEGS
2. SIT DOWN TO PUT ON PANTS
3. AVOID SINGLE LEG EXERCISE

I also recommend sleeping with a pillow between your legs at night 😴
