What if your gut bacteria are influencing your metabolism more than you realize?

On the latest Well Beyond 40, I sat down with Dr. Adam Perlman to explore how your gut microbiome influences metabolism, weight management, and the way your body processes food.

We also dive into why understanding your gut health can be such an important part of your metabolic strategy, something I loved exploring with @docperlz , Chief Medical Officer of @pendulumlifeco

Comment WILLPOWER and I'll send you the full episode: It's Not Willpower, It's Your Gut Bacteria.

"Eat better and exercise more." We've all heard it, and on its own it rarely changes anything. I've been working on ways to help my patients actually live better, and that means getting specific.

Fiber is a good example. Women need about 25 g a day, and men about 38 g. Most of us aren't close: national surveys suggest only about 5% of people in the US meet the recommendation. A typical American diet doesn't get you there unless you're adding fiber on purpose.

So I tried closing that gap myself. In September I told you I was trying a new fiber supplement, Pendulum's Gut Fuel (@pendulumlifeco), and I didn't know yet if it was something I'd keep taking. Here's how it went.

I didn't notice any big changes, and my labs didn't show anything significant either. What I did learn is how hard it was to get the recommended amount from food alone. I never knew how low I was running.

Will I keep using it? Yes. For me, it makes the daily number reachable. And I'm adding different kinds of fiber to my meals too, aiming for an additional 11 g a day on top of what I already eat.

Send this to the friend who's been told to "eat better" and wants to know where to start.

We’ve normalized feeling tired, bloated, and experiencing afternoon energy crashes. But just because something is common doesn’t mean it’s optimal.

As a board-certified surgeon and longevity specialist, I see patients every day who accept these symptoms as part of everyday life.

The truth is, your gut microbiome and metabolic health play an important role in how you feel.

Stress, poor sleep, processed foods, and antibiotics can all disrupt the balance of your gut microbiome.

That’s why I incorporate @pendulumlifeco Metabolic Daily into my routine. It’s formulated with beneficial bacterial strains, including Akkermansia muciniphila, to support gut and metabolic health.

Taking care of your gut is an important part of investing in your long-term health.

GLP-1 is getting plenty of attention. But what about supporting the body’s own production?

Tomorrow, Christina O’Connor, RDN from Pendulum, and I are hosting a complimentary training for healthcare practitioners on the connection between the gut microbiome and natural GLP-1 production.

We’ll explore targeted probiotic strains, review the research, and discuss practical considerations for incorporating GLP-1 Probiotic into clinical care.

You’ll also receive the GLP-1 Probiotic Clinical Protocol Guide.
