NOW ON VIEW: “TO BE SHED THE DEMON WE SAY ITS NAME” Jerry Blackman ( @jerry_blackman ) at Penisula ( @peninsulanyc ) in New York.

Jerry Blackman’s third solo at Peninsula gallery, “To Be Shed The Demon, We Say Its Name” is an installation of three sculptures and an interactive wall treatment. The sculptures were made using thousands of dabs of modeling epoxy over armature wire. Visitors are invited to purchase “tokens” from the gallery’s front desk that correspond to the sculpture of their choosing which are designated as “Fear”, “Regret”, and “Desire”. After writing a personal message to address these passions, the token is to be placed into an empty slot in the wall, eventually filling up the space. Tokens are priced on a sliding scale ranging from $5 to $1000 and are painted accordingly.

Peninsula invites you to explore the intricate experience of “Second Sight.” This five person group exhibition features artworks which appear to hold a message beyond their mechanical means, surfaces that seem to create possible channels through which prophetic predictions or wise counsel is provided.

The authoritative paintings featured exhibit an extremely wide source of knowledge alongside objects which are infused with intuitive visions interpreting possible truths. All are in a delicate dance between waking reality and echoes of tomorrow. This show suggests an act of divination to uncover lost knowledge and esoterica, obscured to others.
