Dearest Fitness:

I had no idea you would transform my life the way you did. The body that constantly trifled with extreme weight fluctuations from overweight to extremely underweight, a meager 110lbs, suffered with mental health disorders, body image, and the slew of other challenges: you stopped me in my dwindling tracks and drew me into you.

You helped me harness so much power and strength to construct a body that I grew so proud to own but even more pronounced a spiritual and mental groundedness unlike any other experience. You showed me truth of self and the transferable skills that would help me face life in all its varieties. You helped me find my deepest authenticity.

As I built my own framework of self, advocacy, and empowerment, I shared this beauty with 100s of others through personal training, group fitness training, and fitness and wellness coaching for over the past 8 years. But I never knew my side hustle, although so central to my persona, would become so entrenched and encompassing in my work and research, culminating in the most beautiful, deeply authentic dissertation--a theoretical, methodological, and personal reflection of all I am.

For my body is not only my site of gender and sexual prowess or my elegant harness of sophistication that demands respect from years of committed body work. It is my site of intellectual inquiry, theoretical and methodological formulation, and operational experimentation of learning self.

And in this consciousness have I learned the beauty of self and other within our varied situated contexts of learning. Learning the bonds through love, empathy, and an ethic care.

Yours in deepest love,
Dr. B - the finest, the baddest, body goodest scholar you'll ever meet ❤️.
