THE GOALKEEPER WHO WON IT FROM HIS OWN END.

15–15. Five seconds left in double overtime.

Pepperdine had just equalised against Air Force.

The Falcons pulled their goalkeeper for one final attack, leaving their own net completely unguarded.

Then came Max Smirnov.

The Israeli goalkeeper made the save, looked up and launched the ball the entire length of the pool.

Straight into the empty net.

PEPPERDINE 16–15 AIR FORCE.

8 saves. 3 steals. 1 game-winning goal.

It was Smirnov’s first goal of the 2026 season and the third of his collegiate career.

An extraordinary finish, but also a fascinating tactical decision that changed everything in the final second.
