Over the last few months I've had the privilege of working with the incredibly talented Gabriella Whited; an amazing artist based out of LA that my (very) soon to be wife @maddiemoons introduced me to!

The first of many tracks we've been working on together drops this Friday and I'm beyond hyped to get it out into the world. It's always a pleasure working with an artist who has such a clear vision for their artistry and a true gift for performance 🎶

My favorite thing about making music is the experience of capturing a moment in time.

The truth of this moment is that we knew it was special while it was happening. We knew what we were making was meaningful.

Not because we knew how people would respond to it. Not because we were certain it would be “successful.” But because it was coming from a real place.

We didn’t give a shit about what anyone else was doing. We weren’t chasing trends, trying to fit into a playlist, or rushing to keep up with the pace of the world around us. We took our time, trusted our instincts, and leaned into what we thought was cool.

I found a lot of peace in that process. Not worrying about what was supposed to work. Not chasing what was popular. Just trusting the work.

We just made classic records.

Records that tell the real story of my brother for life, Gordo Flea. Records that couldn’t have come from anyone else, and definitely wouldn’t exist if we had spent our time worrying about what was supposed to work.

Working with an artist like Gordo, someone who lives and breathes the art form and embodies the culture that shaped him, makes it easy to trust in the vision.

Sometimes you get lucky enough to be present for the creation of something that feels bigger than the moment it’s being made in.

This was one of those times, and I'm forever grateful.

Designed as a hybrid analog–digital environment, the studio centers around an API 2448 console and a Mara-refurbished MCI JH-24 24-track tape machine, allowing artists to track fully analog to tape or integrate seamlessly with modern DAWs including Pro Tools and Ableton. Powered by a Mac Pro M2 Ultra system and a carefully curated plugin ecosystem, the facility bridges classic recording philosophy with cutting-edge precision.

Perception Records was built around one core idea: crafting high quality records and helping artists bring their creative vision to life, from the studio to the rollout.

As the company grew, we felt pressure to fill release schedules, keep up with social demand, and move fast. Along the way, we took opportunities that expanded our reach, but pulled us away from our original focus and diluted our sonic identity.

As we enter a new era of Perception Records, we are returning to what matters most.

From here on out, every release on our label will be produced in house, led by our founder and staff producer @jay.greens alongside an all star team of writers, session musicians, producers, and engineers.

This is the Perception Sound.
