🥁🔥 EL SABOR NO SE IMPROVISA… ¡SE TRABAJA! 🇨🇺

when Perfectionism approaches your door, don’t answer it. the being behind the peephole is merely a mask. what wears that mask can be any number of enemies that come to haunt you:
Fear, Procrastination, Unworthiness, Self-Sabotage, Self-Limitation, the Need to be Liked.
there is one way to keep them at bay - Use Your Voice.

ive been loving these videos that aren’t as fleshed out - because by sharing what i practice, im practicing what I preach.
here’s some thoughts i had on 3 congas, expanding the tones i can speak with on the drum, honing in on a couple phrases and sentences. playing a rhythm with some Haitian influence, some afrocuban vocab, over a brazilian pandeiro groove. the life of the percussionist is one of developing fluency. and the best way to do that is to Speak.

Here’s a variation from the conga practice session I shared the other day.. the one where I mused (or ranted) about overcoming limitations, caring so much about something that you just don’t care, letting nothing get in the way of what’s important to you.
I also talked a bit about reframing the idea of what is “good enough” to post on social media.
I’ve been really vibing with the idea of being a “Directionalist” rather than a perfectionist - just continually making movements and actions that are directionally correct, which makes them a part of a perfectly designed divine plan.
Posting this today is directionally correct for me, so I’m happy to share that, no matter how imperfect this session was, it’s exactly what it needs to be. I hope that plants a beautiful seed for you on this journey of expanding past our limitations.
