in a few weeks it will be one year since my favorite artist transitioned. still, I don’t have the words for how much this man’s vulnerability and command of the human experience has meant to me. if there’s anything I’ve learned in this past year it’s that grief is a terrible, confusing, isolating thing. join me on the first anniversary of his passing so we can share in that grief together, and maybe we’ll find the words - or the groans, the tears, the smiles, the laughter - together.

I’ll be spinning D all night and screening some rare footage of his interviews and performances. Got a few more things in store. Bring a lover of good music with you. Pull up with a record if you have one.

The broadcast is inspired by this year’s theme, “From Baltimore to the World,” and is curated to match each day’s theme with DJs: Elissa Blount Moorhead (@ebmoorhead), Pierre Bennu (@exittheapple), and Xavier Walker (@pocketdweller_).

🇵🇭🇵🇷 Monday, September 14th - Harbours, Harana & Bomba A journey through the music, stories, and shared artistic traditions of the Philippines and Puerto Rico, tracing how island cultures, migration, and performance continue to shape Baltimore’s creative landscape.

🇰🇷🇻🇳 Tuesday, September 15th - Mountains, Moons & Memory - From Korean folklore and contemporary art to Baltimore’s own traditions of storytelling and community-making, PMR explores how memory travels across generations and geographies via textiles and ancient craft.

🇪🇬 Wednesday, September 16th - Songs for Sirius - Inspired by the star that guided ancient and contemporary Egyptian cosmology, this conversation connects Egyptian music, visual culture, and diasporic imagination to Baltimore’s artists, musicians, and makers.

🇸🇩 Thursday, September 17th - Dust to Water: Afro Blue - Following the path of the Nile to the Chesapeake, this program explores Sudanese music, poetry, and cultural memory alongside Baltimore’s rich traditions of Black artistic expression, escape, care and sanctuary.

🇮🇳🇵🇰 Friday, September 18th - Color of Frequencies: Bashment -Flowing between the Indus, the Ganges, and Baltimore’s harbor, this broadcast examines how music from Bhangra and Bmore Club and artist such as Charanjit Singh to Ultra Nate film, poetry, and migration create new cultural rhythms across South Asian and Black diasporas in the city.  Perfect Memory Radio is a community radio sinking into a practice of deep listening and charting the waters of Black

Atheel Elmalik (@etherealsteeze) is a Sudanese artist, curator and cultural thinker interested in exploring liberated relationships of people to land and one another through stories of movement and migration, intergenerational healing and connection to the sentience of the more than human world. In conversation with Fatima Wardy, a Sudani filmmaker raised in the UK and currently based in Baltimore, Maryland. Her work centers on mothers and motherlands: matriarchal tethers as sites of becoming.

It’s officially been a month since the Season 1 finale of Chicken Grease🥹 Shoutout to all the lovers who tuned in as we vibed to some of my favorite tracks that storyboard the journey of romance. Hosting this show was such a highlight during a really difficult winter season, and I truly enjoyed this space to share my love of music, history, media, and Black•ness.
