POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

As part of @falloffreedom, happening Oct 2-8, @_undoxx_ is launching new episodes of the UNDOXX: artists untangle censorship miniseries! Public Nuisance just dropped @thebodyisthebrain.

In this episode @_undoxx_ explores how censorship functions in a country outside of the U.S., specifically for artists from Vietnam. Host maura nguyễn donohue (@mauranguyendonohue) is joined by one of her fellow curators for the multi-modal Vietnamese diasporic project, “We Exist in the Ambivalence of Those Motherfuckers,” Anh Vo (@anhqvo), along with Vietnamese performance artists, Thanh Toàn Doan (@revolutionarywetpuppy333) & Nhi Lê Phương (@im.nhi.le). This conversation took place during their 3-week residency at Performance Space New York (@performance.space.new.york) and a Movement Research (@movementresearch) Performance Journal takeover in January and February of this year.

How do artists raised under strict censorship, scarce resources, and unstable infrastructures persist? Navigating both direct censorship—state oversight, permits, and surveillance—and indirect pressures such as funding loss and institutional control, draws increasing parallels between Vietnam and the U.S. Building temporary, collective, and sometimes unsanctioned environments for performance—DIY structures like pop-ups, workshops, and street-based actions—becomes an essential strategy for survival and experimentation.

~~~~~~~
UNDOXX: artists untangle censorship (@_undoxx_) is a miniseries on Hope Mohr’s (@thebodyisthebrain) podcast, the body is the brain. It is a series by artists for artists about censorship in the United States and elsewhere co-created by artists and activists, Yanira Castro (@acanarytorsi), zavé martohardjono (@zavozavito), Hope Mohr (@hopemohr), maura nguyễn donohue (@mauranguyendonohue), and Ziggy Simone (@ziggy.simone), and edited by Erica Ricketts (@rude_ricketts).
As books are banned, paintings are taken down, residencies are canceled and institutions tell us which content is permissible, this miniseries looks at the wins, talking to the people and orgs who are refusing to be silenced.
#art #censorship #falloffreedom A white slide with a black banner a third of the way from the top. On the top it reads in a black, block font: “the body is the brain miniseries special.” On the black banner is the title in white font: “UNDOXX: artists untangle censorship.” At the bottom it reads: “episode: public nuisance.” A handdrawn scribbled knot is at the bottom.
Trump is not what makes America great. The people of this country are what make America great.
Trump is a symbol of a much larger problem: a political system that too often serves wealth, power, and the billionaire class before it serves everyday people. We need leaders who fight for the people—not for special interests, not for billionaires, but for the communities they were elected to represent.
America has always aspired to be a place where people can pursue opportunity, find safety, and be treated with dignity and equality. I believe those values deserve to be protected, not weakened.
People can criticize me. They can disagree with me. They can say whatever they want about me. But I'm not interested in attacking my fellow Americans. I'm interested in standing up for them.
If we don't speak up, if we don't organize, if we don't take up space, and if we don't hold our leaders accountable, we risk losing the very principles that make this country worth fighting for.
America has reached 250 years because generations of ordinary people refused to stay silent. Now it's our turn.
If they’re going to call us witches,
we might as well move like it. “I’m a… Womyn” returns live on February 28th, 8PM—six years later—because apparently we’re still living in it.
A study of cyclical time.
Of women who won’t move in straight lines.
Of power that doesn’t behave.
