I’ve been taking some time to process the conversations happening in our freediving community.

First, I want to acknowledge the women who have found the courage to share their experiences. No one should have to navigate harassment or abuse in a sport they love, and no one should have to question whether speaking up will come at a cost.

As a woman who became a dive professional at a young age, navigating a traditionally male dominated industry hasn’t always been easy. Recently I’ve found myself reflecting on the experiences that have shaped how I show up in this space and the ways I’ve learned to protect myself and earn respect.

It’s made me think about the culture we’ve created and the responsibility we all share in making it better.

As instructors, mentors, and leaders, our responsibility extends beyond teaching someone to dive. We have a responsibility to create environments where people feel safe, boundaries are respected, and concerns are taken seriously.

The ocean should be a place where women feel free to explore, challenge themselves, and discover what they’re capable of. That freedom should never come at the expense of their safety, dignity, or peace of mind.

I want women entering this sport to feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to pursue their passion without having to navigate the same challenges so many women before them have faced.

I don’t have all the answers, but I know the kind of community I want to be part of and the kind of environment I want to help create.

We all have a role to play. 🤍
