Rosie!

Just wanted to share a couple more undeniably amazing photos that didn’t make the cut the first time! Once again, I’m so grateful for everyone who was a part of this production, both cast, crew, creative team, orchestra, directorial team, etc. This show will forever be in my heart, and so will all of you.

where are your troubles now?💋

The Kit Kat Klub has officially closed and what an absolute honor it has been to not only be a part of this legendary musical, but to help truthfully represent the horrid past of our world. Being in Cabaret has helped me grow as an artist and individual. I always pride myself on being someone who uses my platform and art to raise awareness and amplify unheard voices and now I much more deeply understand how truly detrimental it is to be complacent as a community and society and only take action when the harm is inflicted upon you or a community you belong to. We MUST educate ourselves, educate our peers, educate our loved ones, and go further and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

I extend so much gratitude and have the utmost respect for my director, Rachel Dawson (@rachelwdawson ) for seeing me, this cast, this story, and pursuing it. You helped make such an impact in just 5 weeks and the work you produced was so complex and beautiful. Special thanks to this perfectly marvelously talented cast for lending your voices, bodies, and overall presence to such a piece. Thank you to the crew for your insanely hard work during every second of the show. Thank you to the creative team for your dedication to making sure this story was told efficiently and keeping us grounded through it all. I thank each and every one of you for your love and support during this time and not a single ounce of it goes unnoticed or unappreciated. Continue to shine, tell these stories, and remember…”Relax, loosen up, be yourself”⭐️

Pick Your Poison: An Original Musical by Me!!
Over the past two years I’ve been working on creating this artwork, and I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to see it through. I’ve never been apart of a theatrical production before I had to write, direct, and produce this show, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I cannot thank my cast enough for joining me on this project, as well as everyone supporting me throughout the way. The link is on my YouTube in my bio if you missed it!

The Escape; A Leap to Freedom by William Wells Brown

Adapted by Dr. Marvin McAllister

Director: Marvin McAllister

Assistant Director: Samiyah Jeffery

Stage Manager: Ethan Ganzell

Assistant Stage Managers: Morgan Daly and Amber Ford

The power this production holds even past its closing is an absolute marvel. The creativity, resilience, persistence, and strength that each actor held was incredibly beautiful to see. They took the challenge and stepped outside of their comfort zones to produce a piece of art that was difficult but necessary.

This work is a true representation of what I believe theater and art in general should be: difficult, direct, and absolutely unrelenting. We should never stay in what is comfortable or we will never grow as artists, as creatives, as people.

I have been so incredibly grateful to have been a part of this experience and so thankful to Dr. McAllister for the opportunity. I am thankful to our incredible stage managers because without their dedication and choice to go above and beyond for The Escape, it would not have happened. I am also thankful to the cast and their support of me throughout this process as I was still growing and learning. I have extreme pride in all of you.

To be a part of the first ever production of this beautiful and raw play will be something I cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you to those who supported us and shared these moments with us.

To be young, gifted, and black.

All my love🤍

- Samiyah Jeffery

I’m thankful to even be able to say that I was apart of this cast and all of the talented people that I was able to work with. I’m grateful to Dr. Mcalister and Samiyah for allowing me the opportunity to be able to portray Dolly and the Second Peddler.

To the cast, I had so much fun with the process of building what we all put our time and creative minds to build together. I love you guys and I’m so proud of each of you. Getting to grow with you guys has been so rewarding. I love the fun that we’ve had and the connections that we created together. Not to mention the inside jokes that we’ve created LOL. You all are so wonderful and I couldn’t have asked for a better cast to perform this with.

I love you all.

Thank you so much to all of the cast and crew of The Escape: or a Leap For Freedom! This show and process has challenged me so much, but I think the most useful thing this show gave me was the connections with all of you! I am so honored to have brought Melinda to life and I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of this fantastically talented cast!

Thank you to @winthroptheatre and all those involved in the production! I can’t tag you all but know I’m sooo grateful!
