We are so stoked to announce: Fountain After Dark #3!!! For those who don’t know, this is our evening concert series where we trade our Spring/Summer sun-soaked afternoon backyard shows for music performances where the lights are a little lower and the vibe is even more intimate. Our wonderful pals at @lloyds_records will be hosting this one on Sunday November 15th! This is a STACKED bill as well: Fountain returnees @k.h.baker (who just put out a new release!) will be bringing a special full-band ensemble. @leviminson — an incredible Sacramento songwriter — will be sharing a special solo set. Longtime friend and Fountain-released artist @sucker.crush is sharing their beautiful tunes. And, last but not least, Arithia (@audrey.claire.music) is making their solo project debut! Needless to say, this is gonna be one for the books — don’t miss out! ✌️❤️ 🕯️🕯️🕯️⛲️✒️🌕🌖🌗🌘 Deets: Sunday 11/15 7pm At @lloyds_records (3824 Telegraph, Oakland) @k.h.baker (full band) @leviminson (solo) @sucker.crush Arithia (@audrey.claire.music) $15-20 suggested donation notaflof See you there!!! A snippet from one of my fav parts of Infinite Escalator and a word about the man, the myth, the legend, David Axlerod. . I first discovered Human Abstract in high school through the @djshadow record “Midnight In a Perfect World”. I was at that point completely obsessed, pouring over album credits, rabbit hole after rabbit hole trying to learn who played what, who sampled who, where it was cut, and how to get those magical sounds into my own music. Axlerod’s music was all over some of the best hip hop breaks/beats/songs of all time. Epic. Sauce. . It wasn’t until I saw @thomascampbellart’s “Sprout” and “The Present” that I really realized surf films could have that same magic to them too- it didn’t have to be all thrusters, macho coked-out neon-sponsor logo-shortboard-maximalism, they could have the same glowing, raw, funny, improvisatory, unpolished beauty that all these records I loved had too. Again Axlerod showed up in these films, and it blew my mind. It was the perfect visual counterpart to those sounds. . Cut to finally making my own surf film, something I’d been dreaming of doing since I was a kid in SD. It seemed a perfect fit to pay homage and record a cover of “Human Abstract” since I hadn’t heard (and still haven’t for that matter 😉) anyone else do a version of it. It felt like the perfect way to have this project come full circle, shooting most of it on 16mm film, recording the soundtrack to tape, all the stylistic choices that have made it feel true to that little kid who wanted to make a surf movie when he grew up. So I called some of my nearest and dearest pals in Oakland, and we made it happen. Shouts out to the dopest crew @dougiestu bass @neatbeats drums/perc @perhapsymusic guitar @_bobbing guitar @m.o.o.n.r.u.n guitar @mouscula vibraphone @salamirosejoelouis keys @martinperna sax/flute @coleman.mp3 engineer/mix #abehollowadamhirsch engineer @jathompso mastering Recorded in Oakland, CA @tiny.telephone studio . We’re heading into the studio this week to start recording the new Rituals of Mine album. Over the last 8 months, I’ve been teaching myself piano, digging into synth tones, leveling up my production skills, fumbling over samples, and watching too many videos of @bjork in the studio or on a mountain top recording flowers blooming. This new body of work has had quite a hold over me. I’ve spent my days singing the melodies, sending files back and forth with @wesjonesmusic, mapping out motifs with @swedrums_round2, talking incessantly with @dani_88fernandez about beat production, studying songs that move me… not much else makes sense to me at the moment. The world is chaos. We as humans can be confusing. This industry can feel bleak. But writing this record feels necessary, essential to my well-being. To my healing. To my spirit. I am clinging to these songs. I believe this is my best work yet and I’m honored to have a community of friends and long-time collaborators involved in helping shape this story into storytelling. @wesjonesmusic, @dani_88fernandez, @shattered.records, @swedrums_round2 @miguelrecendez , @jarchievibes_ , @perhapsymusic, @reverey, @devowr.404 & the others that will join along the way. I can’t wait to share more as it all unfolds. ❤️‍🔥 Photos by the incredible @ramon_felix_ #ritualsofmine
