Today I announced federal government support of over $28 million at the groundbreaking ceremony of a 66-unit Odayanhaway indigenous-led housing project at the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa, in partnership with Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services. The word Odayanhaway means “little village” in Ojibway, and this will be part of a larger 229-unit affordable rental housing project - a true village. It was an inspiring celebration and a model of how faith groups, indigenous non-profits, the private sector and government can work together to build welcoming communities where people can live in culturally-appropriate affordable homes where they can access the services that they need to thrive. I look forward to seeing this vision become a reality. It is a true example of reconciliation in action. #OttWN

We have been meaning to share this with everyone✨

We want to acknowledge and celebrate 10 years + of operating as a not for profit organization. It’s important to share our lore as we have been doing super impactful work the past decade (and maybe you didn’t even know how we got here).

We have always remained grassroots and have offered support and opportunities to Indigenous youth since we started organizing. We have done a lot with a little and we have had help from so many along the way also. Miigwetch to everyone who has been part of the journey so far.

Feel free to leave a comment with some of your favourite memories with us.

This year reminded us that real impact rarely happens in straight lines.

It happens in conversations that turn into partnerships.
In ideas that slowly become systems.
In communities that keep showing up, even when resources are tight and the work is difficult.

What began as a pandemic-driven response in 2020 has grown into one of Canada’s fastest-growing charities, now recognized and supported nationally and globally.

That growth did not happen overnight, and it did not happen alone.

At NL Eats, this year was about more than delivering programs.

We built capacity.
We strengthened infrastructure.
We invested in people, partnerships, and long-term change.

From food access to future skills, from local communities to global conversations, none of this would be possible without the trust placed in us by our partners, volunteers, funders, and community members.

Thank you for believing in community-led solutions.
Thank you for building with us, not just supporting from the sidelines.

As we look ahead, our focus remains the same: scale with intention, stay grounded in community needs, and design systems that last.

If you are interested in partnerships or collaboration:

This is shared progress. And we are just getting started.

On this Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for what we built together. Seeing everyone share, connect, and bring their passion reminded me that real impact comes from community, talent, and the spaces we create for each other.

Moments like this stay with you long after the event, not just in memories, but in the inspiration and energy they leave behind.

Thank you to everyone who contributed, shared their time, and brought their love for community with them. Let’s continue to keep these spaces alive, create more opportunities, and carry on the conversations that matter! 🩷
