Meet Socrates M. Medina, designer and founder of Perro y Arena.

With a background in architecture and art history, Socrates founded Perro y Arena in 2018 as a personal project, sharing his creations with friends and family. In 2021, he returned to his native Tijuana to pursue his artistic practice full-time.

For the Hammer Show, he reimagined the familiar tool as a ceramic hammerhead shark. A beautiful and unexpected meeting of function, form, and a little bit of the surreal.

Discover Socrates M. Medina’s ceramic hammerhead shark at The Hammer Show, on view at The Perish Trust through mid-November.

Wooowweeeee! We had the best morning with y’all at our @desertdesignweek “Here and Elsewhere” event! Such great energy! ✨ Thanks to all of our artists who made work exclusively for today, and to everyone who came by to support our amazing artists!

It was such a joy to chat with everyone, to have several of our artists pop by and talk about their work with you, and to witness your enthusiasm for all the beautiful things. That’s what it’s all about. 💗

We’ll be keeping the work out through the weekend. Pop by or send us a message if you’re wondering about a specific piece!
